  1. Flash: Mandrakesoft Stock Trading Resumes As a follow-up to the recent announcement regarding Mandrakesoft's return to profitability, more good news can now be reported: The company has filed to exit "Chapter 11 like" after one complete year, and Mandrakesoft stock has resumed trading on the European Euronext stock exchange: http://www.mandrakesoft.com/company/invest...letter/sn040304 Thanks to everyone who supported us during this challenging transitional period! 2. Oh, Artee, right. Actually I put this in another post, but on second thought I'd better put it here: Your website and article are on top at www.distrowatch.com!
  3. Kind of OT: Hey, Artee, your website and review is on top of the page at www.distrowatch.com! Let those visitors roll on in! ;)
  4. No, it almost seems like Mandrake has read my/our mind(s) :P :P It's not on the mirrors yet (Dutch and Belgian) though. Not last time I looked. Goooo Mandy!
  5. I disagree. For displaying tabular data, tables were, and are, still great. Not the mention the safest and easiest way to do so. But here's an example of how you could make a form using css-based markup. For those with an interest in CSS, A List Apart is highly recommendable. The last few articles are be extremely interesting, especially for graphical (web) artists. http://www.alistapart.com/articles/practicalcss/ There's bound to be more on the web though, but this I remembered.
  6. I just tried it using the latest version of Wine (well, at least the latest package for apt-get). I get an interface screen, see the screenshot below. There's some textual overlap though, and I haven't really tried to use it yet. Edit: I tried it for a while with Games I already made, and it's quite functional! Even the 'Test Game' function works. It did report a problem with the audio (could not load midi or something similar). I guess it's far from perfect, but with effort, this could be made to work! Second Edit: When I tried the included "Demo" game, my resulation was messed up again. Damn that's annoying! Darkelve
  7. Aru, I think it is good they stated their opinions. To show that, in the long run, if he makes the efforts these will bear fruit. Thinking of my own situation, I've been fiddling and hopping for almost 2 years now, but slowly getting there. But I agree this thread shouldn't grow to five pages... As for the ranting, it doesn't add any value, but I believe it's all for the fun. E.g. Gmac's remark, which *is* rude, but made me laugh nonetheless. Cause it was meant to be funny. But he's wrong though, some Americans do know how to spell :P . Darkelve Edit: maybe we should put information about this in the FAQ's? So that, instead of having this discussion over and over, it's always available for reference.
  8. Just downloaded Mepis Linux today (well, what with Mandrake 10 at least 2 weeks away :P ) and was up an running within half an hour. My internet connection (with the Linksys Wireless Bridge) works as well! I am guessing it is something related with Debian. The IP addresses (through DHCP) keep behaving weird and jumping up every time I connect (one time it's -say- xxx.xxx.x.13 next time it's xxx.xxx.x.27 ). Well who cares, it works! The next three hours have been used configuring it, installing wallpapers, skins, and installing applications. Sounds like I like it? You bet! I have a feeling this could become a distro to stay on my hard disk. It has really interesting stuff too and I like the way the maker approaches certain things. I'm still getting used to apt-get, but it's not so difficult I guess. Already installed Evolution and Mozilla Thunderbird with it. Just didn't dig Kmail. The step from LiveCD to harddisk was really impressive to see as well! Of course the knowledge I've gathered while using Mandrake&other distro's helped a lot. Just thought I'd share my happy thoughts! Go Mepis! Darkelve
  9. Which link? Edit: the newsflash is now on Mandrake's official site. Kind'a late, don't you think ;)
  10. Of course this could all be speculation, but it has a very 'authentic' feel to it: basically it is saying M$ financed SCO for about $100 million! Read it here: http://www.opensource.org/halloween/halloween10.html Or if you don't care, try Mandrake X :P
  11. Erm, so I guess about every project has a Wiki? I didn't look yet, but I guess it's comparable to Wikipedia, only here with tutorials?
  12. Well, nevermind Bizhosting. I used that more than a year ago. I guess at one point these 'free' hosting providers all go commercial.
  13. Eh... Mandrake has a Wiki?? I didn't even know that.
  14. If you're looking for free hosting, maybe you could try bizhosting: http://www.bizhosting.com/ this will give you a domainname like http://linuxinfo.bizhosting.com/ The last time I tried that, I was fairly impressed. You get FTP access also. And I believe there were no ads required either, although I'm not sure if that is still the case. There are no scripts and no database stuff, but if all you want to do is host some simple static pages, I think it will do fine. Perhaps it's worth checking out. Edit: I just checked again and the service is NOT free anymore. Kind of a shame really. Darkelve
  15. I see two frames: one top frame (small, for navigation), and one bottom frame (large, for content). Home page displays okay, but when I follow any other link, there will be advertising in the content screen (something about surveys). I've got a nice story for you as well. When I have more time, I'll post it here. Darkelve
  16. The 'Get the FUD' campaign is running full steam on Newsforge, e.g. here: http://www.newsforge.com/trends/04/02/29/1432246.shtml isn't that kind 'a ironic? What the hell do they hope to achieve with that? Aren't those visitors pro-FLOSS anyway? I tell you it scared the heck out of me when I saw that. MORE FUD. Yay. Edit: you might have to refresh. The banners on top are random.
  17. Yeah, you're right, that's Dreamweaver Code. If the problem really lies with this script, I am pretty certain they will take it into account. Css support was much clamored for in version 4, and with Dreamweaver MX, support has made huge progress, IMHO (though still not enough). What I am wondering is, could this actually be made with an *old* version of Dreamweaver?? Above code would surprise me if it isn't. Darkelve
  18. I myself find the name "Internet Exploiter" more applicable. :P
  19. I wonder if it is M$ Office only? Our company uses a Windows NT 4.0 network with a Citrix client and we just switched from token ring to Ethernet. While that may be justification for some problems, we got a whole month of problems, things go slower than a turtle sleepwalking, several people lost the contents of their entire hard disk and/or their e-mail correspondence and agenda, and/or lost work while yet another program crashed. Makes you wonder about some things...
  20. Last year they brought it out a month later than originally planned as well. I think end March?
  21. Ah, I know this one: Free/Libre Open Source Software FLOSS. :D
  22. Another tip: put it in Html-Kit / Html-Tidy, then check "Stip surplus tags in word 2000 pages". Html-Kit which comes with tidy is only available in Windoze. Html Tidy (a W3C-tool) is, I think, available for various operating systems. http://www.w3.org/People/Raggett/tidy/
  23. Why not just make some nice templates with (X)html and CSS? Put them on the web, re-use them. Put all your handy dandy layout mark-up in your external style sheet, then use it over and over! Powerpoint lay-outs are generally really simple, IMHO. Re-use for all yer presentations. Sure the stylesheets might get huge, but considering the alternative... Put it on the web? Hey, it's ready to go! But there's of course the 'problem' of how to download it. Put it in a Zip file? Good idea but sadly some chaps don't even know how to USE an unzip utility. And they work on PC's daily!
  24.      Arg... Gowator, why you do this to ME!?
  25. Morrowind! I'd buy that in a second (Boy I'm addicted to that game ... best value for money ever). Sorry to get repititious  you can play it without an internet connection, single player, and it's really 1 of the best RPG's ever made. I do think it uses Direct3D or some rendering device difficult/impossible to port. Whoa... I just found out you can run it with WineX! This would be one of those cases where WineX is actually useful, if I wanted to run Linux, couldn't miss Morrowind and WineX actually allowed me to play it. I know, shouldn't be how it should be (in a perfect world there would be a native Linux version), but it's a great 'bridging' technology in such a case. Of course, Morrowind is *already* quite bug-prone, so I dunno what would happen running under Wine.
