  1. I encourage you to do so: http://www.codeweavers.com/site/products/d.../download_trial I got quite a bit of programs running I did not really expect to run, although most don't run perfectly.
  2. From their site FAQ (bold font=mine) "Q. Are there any Windows applications that you can't get working under CrossOver? A. Our experience suggests that the answer to this is most likely "probably not". For all practical purposes, we think we can make anything run under CrossOver. After all, if we can make MS Office run, odds are pretty good that we can get your application running, too. The only question is how much work is entailed." They probably have a point. Office must be a *beast* to get to run.
  3. http://www.codeweavers.com/site/compatibil...11fad03cac09856 Extract: "Putting a Stake in the Ground Up to this point, the perception has been that Wine only runs a limited number of Windows applications. For instance, CodeWeavers' CrossOver Office only officially supports about a dozen applications. However, the truth is that CrossOver runs many Windows applications quite well, although they may not be officially supported. Now, we're raising the bar. We are confident that Wine has matured to the point that CrossOver will run 95% of all Windows applications by the end of 2005. This Compatibility Center has been established in order to document that progress as Wine makes the next great leap forward." Hype or reality?
  4. Yeah, but I wonder how long before anyone 'forgets' to run it in safe mode and then blames the author
  5. Full info: Asus A7N266-C Socket A Motherboard nVidia nForce 415-D Chipset DDR SDRAM I wonder what'll happen if I disable 3D and use the 'nv' module instead of nvidia module. I wonder if that would help??
  6. I like Limewire, basically because installation and use is a no-brainer (well, if you don't run into Java thingy problems, that is, but you shouldn't).
  7. I thought Slax was quite nice too: http://slax.linux-live.org/
  8. The three distro's based on debian (Lindows, Mepis and Xandros) I used recently all work excellently on my PC except... sometimes I get a screen freeze, for no apparent reason at all. I can't do a 'quick restart' (ctrl+alt+backspace) and I can't even get into a virtual console by pressing Ctrl+F1. I can move my mouse, but all the rest freezes. So I have no other option but to reboot. I am not really sure about this, but I suspect this could be related to my video card, which is a nVida Gefore MX440. Needless to say, this is very annoying! Mandrake doesn't have this problem AFAIK. So what could be the problem here? And what can I do to locate and solve the problem? Currently on my HD: Xandros (30-day demo version). But I'd happily install e.g. Mepis if it's easier to track down the problem. After all, if it's solved in one distro, it should be solved in all 3, right? Thanks, Darkelve
  9. Anna is now... GermanGirlLiveCDKreator... just kidding :P
  10. Null, I sent a mail to the SuSe presales team with some questions about WineRack on wensday. I did not get a reply yet, but I'll post it here once I do.
  11. For those non-believers, here's a screenshot. :P
  12. Damn! I know I should get more sleep... I've made too much mistakes in the past few days. but in my defense, with all of those new thingies coming out for Linux its hard to keep count of them all!
  13. Windependent: apologies accepted :D In fact, to make up for the mistake, here's another link for us distro-hoppers: http://www.distrowatch.com/?newsid=01482 http://shop.xandros.com/product_info.php?c...&products_id=73 Now don't hang me if this is wrong, I got it litteraly from Distrowatch and as far as I know it is NOT April's Fool :P However, you do have to register. And it's limited for 30 days. Distrowatch: "A fully functional 30-day trial edition of Xandros Business Desktop 2.0 is now available for free download: "This is a 30 day evaluation version of the Xandros Desktop OS Business Edition. It is fully functional for 30 days and includes a PDF of the abridged User Guide. The guide includes instructions on installing and configuring Xandros Desktop OS as well as procedures for using the Windows networking capabilities. To download this product, you must enter your real e-mail address so that the download links can be sent to you." More information...." And I'm really downloading it too! [Edit: and it's downloading real slow... in fact, I already had to resume 3 times :( ] Darkelve
  14. Aaargh.... calm down you guys! it was SuSe 9.0 Evaluation CD I downloaded and tried, from here: ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/live-eval-9.0/ And you can find it in THIS article: http://www.groklaw.net/article.php?story=2...4047434#c102362 My mistake was: I really *thought* it was the latest version (9.1)... Should I really be hanged for this? I know, maybe I can take away three letters of my name: Dar---ve Sheesh... I hope you were joking 'cause I don't enjoy being called a TROLL!
  15. While we are at it, Mozilla 1.7 is out; http://www.mozilla.org/ And it is not a joke! At least I hope not, haven't tried it yet. Darkelve
  16. Ixthusdan, that is SO true! Can I quote you on that should the occassion occur? SoulSe, if you're reading this, perhaps something to consider for our brochure? Darkelve
  17. I think with that he actually meant things like bandwidth and a 'super'-powerful system will be so cheap as to be virtually free in the future. Which would place the burden on companies and/or the government, of course. And, OF COURSE, this future will be dominated with 'very cheap' (*cough*) M$ servers pushing programs and content to 'virtually free' end user systems. This way, of course, you don't NEED powerful systems, so of course they'll be cheap. Like Settop boxes, digital watches, palms, ... [Ah.. the evil ploy] Sounds to me like he's spinning this to sound like ALL hardware will be (virtually) free for EVERYBODY. Well, that ain't gonna happen. I'm wonder what Intel is thinking about this statement.
  18. Been there, done that. I wouldn't much waste my time on such comments from the Beast...
  19. From what I heard on this board, it will probably still include 2.4
  20. I watched the first 40 minutes of that Brainshare keynote... man they are really going for it! At least that's my impression. If they get it right this could be like a truck driving through a brick wall for some of their competitors. And it seems they are getting it right. The show was impressive. Question for you guys here: who works/has worked with Novell or their products? What's your experience with them? Any good ones, bad ones? Of course Novell can say what they like, but I'd be more interested in hearing from their current or previous customers.
  21. If you installedt in the standard directory, there should be a file called something like cxuninstall in the folder/opt/cxoffice or /opt/cxoffice/bin. Possibly you have to type a dot before it, like this: /opt/cxoffice/bin/.cxuninstall The names and folders might be slightly off, but you'll find them if you look for it.
  22. lol aRtee... you're sure it's not a coincidence? EV1 (server company) took a license from SCO. But SCO said the amount paid was 7 figures... Ev1 was really furious 'cause it was way less but they didn't say how much, I suspect they agreed with SCO not to reveal it. My suggestion was: give a donation to Linux (e.g. kernel development or the like) for the exact same amount they licensed... to give people a cluestick. Creative solutions are so nice some times ;) Like Opera did: if you cannot fight with money, fight with humor. Often much more deadly :D
