  1. Excellent I ll try this tomorrow. Indeed I have the dvd version from a magazine, I haven t tried with my mona dvd maybe I should. In the meantime I have tried Suse 9 and 10 entrprise with no success. I eventually got a clean install using mandriva one that I am now updating via kiosk, and of course it s time to go to work! Never mind! Thanks for your help I ll keep posting my progresses Stef :D
  2. Hi there, I ve built a new system with a asus M2NPV-VM and I get some problems to install. Even with acpi=off, the install progresses normally then once I ve entered my name and pass, the progression sops on : insmod_/tmp/forcedeth.ko I ve tried with 2006 as well both block on the same thing. I decide to install opensusclick which installed fine. Can anyone think of an install mode on which the sonfig would ignore this forcedeth.ko and finish the insatll?? The Chips are : nvidia C51, nforce 430 and geforce6150. Thanks!
  3. Done, I have droped a line on supertuxkart-devel@lists.berlios.de to see if any luck... Wait and see now! :D
  4. I suppose that is the answer... 5. Hi, As a mandriva user and a game addict I feel often a bit frustrated when I see that the best we can get with kiosk (which is not free) is xmoto... I used to play better game on my atari in the 70's! Now, I fount that tuxkart was ok to relax between two updated of cooker, but follow that link : http://supertuxkart.berlios.de/screenshots.html and you'll find a game which is quite good for a freebie and is going to amuse me for a while. It is fully compatible with my MS-sidewinder precision pro which is even better! Please, can we have an RPM for that sort of game to make our distro even more attractive??? Stef :D (who does not know how to write rpms....)
  6. Hi Ian, Thanx for quick answer, I guess I ll install both (got about 4 free partitions) and start benchmarking the whole stuff!! Stef
  7. Hi there, I've ordered some new bit to build a new sff with an am2 socket, system will be as follow : Asus Vintage V2 AH2 Athlon XP 64 3500+ & 2x512Mb DDRII 1 sata 160Gb 1 PATA 160Gb etc... 1-So, I understand I will have to download a 64 bit edition of mandriva, can I upgrade my current config or do I perform a new install?? 2-Am I likely to have some drivers problems as this mobo is quite new? 3-I "still" need windoze on one partition for my games (not released on cedega nor wine), do I need a new version of windoze 64 or will a 32 bits version work? That's all I think! Thanks and sorry to ask about microsprout stuff... Stef :D
  8. Yep, I ve tried astro menace on Mona It is worth a shot, good old game Stef
  9. Hi there, I did the same as artic four days ago. I use several partitions so it is pretty easy to test new candidates whilst safely keeping my stable version (Mdv one updated via Kiosk). So I installed Mona, then upmi.removmedia -a then added the RPM sources via cooker then update all and urpmi --auto-select. It's all going ok so far, I installed Azureus using the jre from java cause the jre1.5 rpm I has would not install. For the 3d no problem using the nvidia drivers BUT I have no succes with the 3d desktop (ie compiz) so far. I have tried quite a few games (tux kart, pp racer) and it all works fine. I ve installed google eart beta 4 wich is fine excet that it seems a bit slower than on the "one" partition for some reason. I still have to use the Gimp with raw files from my Nikon D50. I ve tried open office which is 2.0.3 but like in 2006 and One it takes 20 seconds to start which is far too long for me. I ve tried Nvclock which works perfectly. There we are, so far this is what I ve tried, I must say I quite like the change, It feels like a more noticeable progress compared to 10.2 ->2006 it is just a shame the 3d desktop is a struggle. Stef
  10. Hi Sorry I m nor sure what you mean, do you mean dual boot or both hard drive running a different operating system simultaneously? Stef
  11. Hi there, When I configure my easyurpmi for mona using the website, if I select 2007-comunity I get only the sources for main and contrib. But mona is a version of cooker isn t it, so have I got to select cooker in order to get the other sources (plf and co)? Stef [moved from Installing Mandriva by spinynorman]
  12. Hi There, I am trying to configure compiz (on mona recently installed) and am quite stuck. Here is what I ve done : -installed nvidia drivers NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-8774-pkg1 and installed them -configured compiz with drak3d tool -put Option "RenderAccel" "false" No success. If I leave it like that (with XGL=yes) I loose the direct rendering, If I put XGL=no the direct rendering comes back. Otherwise I get a proper 3d acceleration to play diverse games so the nvidia drivers are working, I also tinker with my settings thanx to nvclock and that works fine too. Am i missing the obvious or is the nvidia driver not ready for XGL? Stef

    Google Earth

Yes, excellent, it works for me too with a mandriva one install spiced-up by kiosk (kde-3.5) Thanks Google! Stef :D
  14. Thanks Ian, I knew you wouldn't leave me in the mud! The thing is , when all that happened I removed the user tof, now I only have myself and root. I had a look at /ets/passwd, it looks a bit hairy for me, I ll have a look tomorrow but I think you've got it right! Ta! Stef :D
  15. Hi, I've installed mdv one on one of my partition. For some reason I didn t manage to install nvclock-0.8 from source. I need it to slow down the fan from my GeForce 6800 asus which is noisy plus overclock a tad when playing quake 4 and X2... Anyway, in last resort I tried the rpm from cooker and it works a treat! So if you like to play with your settings, try it it's a great tool (better than coolbits from nvidia...) Stef [moved from Software by spinynorman]
  16. Hi, I dropped the security to "poor" and still can t use root when under my user stephane. Any other ideas? I agree it's my permissions which must be wrong. Stef
  17. Hi There! Whilst experimenting with kiosk, I had to install a version of mandriva one on a separate partition from my "main" one. My main partition is sda6 with mandriva 2006 free installed and updated since a few month. Very stable until now. I have three users on this partition, root, me (stephane) and my "guru" tof from cooker. On sda7 I installed mandriva one, updated it with mdvonline and installed kde 3.5 via kiosk (it worked as it is the kiosk club version). All good, I also updated the kernel and the source to 2.6.12-22mdk on sda7 to install the latest nvidia drivers. Then I rebooted on my original sda6 (mandriva 2006 free) all good to start then when I start kde it wouldn t start on my account saying that I had no rights to write on my /home/stephane/.kde! So I entered kde using root and discovered that the whole tree on sda6 /home/stephane had been switched to belonging to tof.tof! (my other user). Strange! So I did smthng like chown -R /home/stephane/* and restarted kde. It started and all was right until I tried to use root (or su) while under my session of kde : the root password is not recognised anymore!. So to resume : If I boot on root (kde or failsafe) it works fine. If I boot on kde with stephane's account the root (or su) password is not recognised! Help, I ve never seen anything like that, all works well but I can't update or install anything! Cheers Stef.
  18. Hi! Making some (little) progress with kiosk, please refer to the link below.... http://forum.mandrivaclub.com/viewtopic.ph...er=asc&start=25 Stef ;)
  19. Hi there, For all of you who , like me , are having problems with kiosk, I just keep this feed alive, news are at that link : http://forum.mandrivaclub.com/viewtopic.php?p=229855#229855 News being that kiosk does not work for most people and that despite emails to Mandriva you will not get (or little) support. They apparently are having some kind of server problems. Stef
  20. see my post on http://forum.mandrivaclub.com/viewtopic.php?p=227447#227447 Stef
  21. Hi Ian, Fair enough, I dropped 2 messages a couple ago on their general support site and still no answer, so so far I would say don't bother buying it. I will keep the site updated on my progresses... Stef
  22. No one has used kiosk???? Did I waste £20???
  23. Hi There, I decided to pay the 20 euros to mandriva and try their kiosk thing and see how it performed. Well so far, please excuse my French, c est d'la merde en barre! I have a mdv 2006 free edition updated weekly and I just updated it. It all run perfectly. I downloaded and installed the 4 rpms mdv advised to install prior to start usinf the kiosk. I paid the bill. I signed in. So far so good (mainly for the paying bit which went all very fast!!) Now if I try to install any of the packages I get : " trying to select non-existent medium" Has any one any idea how to solve that? If I want some help from mdv, have I got to use the "pay as yoy go" mandriva experts? Thanks for the help! LINK : http://kiosk.mandriva.com/ STef :D
