Is it possible to use a USB storage key to storage and transfert files between windows and mandriva ? Up to now I have used this USB storage of 256 Mo with Windows only. I would like to use it also with linux. I can see in linux /dev/sda but It requires to format it and to mount it. If I do so, can I still use my USB storage with Windows ? Thanks in advance.

Space allocated to /var/lib/drakbackup
adolfix replied to adolfix's topic in Command Line, Kernel and Programming
I found the solution which is : - To change the dossier where the temporary backup on disk is to be done. - As I had 9 Gb free in /home, I created a dossier /home/var/lib/drakbackup/ (logged in as root) - Then I changed the dossier as in the image herein attached. Bye. -

I have an old Compaq Presario 9520. I am traying to install mandrakelinux 10.1 on it. The boot disket with the kernel 2.6 can not be used for the installation. I had to create a boot disket with the kernet 2.4 to be able to install it. Now my problem is that the capacity of my hard disk is too small (4.9 Gb) to install the minimun I would like to have. I am therefore going to change the hard disk. Could someone tell me which was the latest mandrakelinux version using the kernel 2.4 ? Thanks in advance.

Even if the folders are shared, the acces has to be granted too. Verify this point. This may be the reason. Bye.

It seems to be a problem of acces permissions on the 2003 server. Even if the folders are shared, it is necessary to declare who can acces to them. Verify this point. This may be the reason. Bye

I would like to make a back up of the MBR, just in case for security. I login as root. I format the disket with the command mformat a: After, I do the command : dd if=/dev/hda of=/dev/fd0/mbr.bin bs=512 count=1 The systems responds : dd: ouverture de `/dev/fd0/mbr.bin': Not a directory I then execute the command : ls -l /dev/hda the system responds : brw-rw---- 1 root disk 3, 0 mai 5 09:32 /dev/hda It seems it does not exist. What should I do ? Thanks in advance for your help. [moved from Security by spinynorman] -

Hard Drive Space [solved]
adolfix replied to reconfigured's topic in Command Line, Kernel and Programming
You can also get this information if you use KDE. Go to System -> System monitoring -> disk free. You may also have the icon on the bottom of your screen (sort of toolsbar) composed of three cercles (blue, red and green). Bye -
To verify the compatibility of your hardware I recommend you to look at this link : http://www1.mandrivalinux.com/en/hardware.php3 I recommend you to buy the PowerPack+ (version 10.1 Expert) if you want to save time installing Mandrakelinux. It's well documented and you have 1 DVD and CD's for the installation. To install it with all options (servers...) you require 3 Gb and 64 Mb of RAM. Bye

Click on this link if you want to consult the mandrivalinux database for compatible hardware : http://www1.mandrivalinux.com/en/hardware.php3 Hoping it will help Bye
