  1. For photo's you can try Krita.
  2. Helvetica is not a ms-font but from adobe, i looked in openoffice and it wasn't there in 2008 it was standard there.
  3. I did a update on my eeepc 701 4G because there was a new version of Mandy it got wrong with the message that the disk was full. So i had to reinstalled 2008.1
  4. Is it possible to upgrade to 2009 by simple chancing the software sources. I want to keep KDE 3.5.9 without installing KDE 4.1 I ask it before i mesh up my system.
  5. So if i install the 2009 repo's and mark contrib, main for update my Mandy 2008.1 will be updated to 2009 andi will keep KDE 3.5. What about the eeepc, are there improvemend
  6. I agree with Adam, i've read everywere that the ssd of the acer one is slow. I have a eeepc (600mhz it's underclocked) and a acer one, the eeepc is much faster.
  7. look at the site of Mandriva and you see Mandriva Spring on a USB-stick which you can use as a live version or you can install it on your EEE. The other option is the one i used, i used a USB DVD-player with the one CD to install it on my EEEpc.
  8. Mandriva 10.1 is much to old itis released somewhere in 2004, Ubuntu 5.04 is also about 4 year old. as Ian said Mandriva 20081 is the recent one 2009 will be comming in october. The current release of Ubuntu is now 8.04 and 8.10 will come also in october. So download a current version, burn it and put it in you're dvd-player install it and enyoi.
  9. You're missing the NTloader (NTLDR), you have to reinstall it somehow
  10. If you updated the kernel mandy will boot with the latest kernel unless you choose in grub or LILO a older one, or am i going wacko. The older kernel(s) will not be overwritten.
  11. And you can also install openasroot
  12. You can do this also in the MandrivaControleCentre/Booting/Configure Bootsystem then klick next and choose added. It could be that Mandy find two windows, in my case sda1 and sda2 (or hda or whatever)) try to boot into windows using the first one in grub. If it want start delete it from the MCC.
  13. do you choose in MCC/internet /wireless for Atheros communication or for windows driver (ndiswrapper.) I have a acer 5315 and a EEEpc with the same w-lan chip and they work, i choose for Atheros commumications and it works
  14. Hey, MMMMMMMMMMMMMMichellllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll. B) Long time no hear
  15. In the sources of 2008.1 is a programm called "mklivecd", here is a description of it mklivecd - Builds a LiveCD from an existing Mandriva Linux installation it seems that it can make it on a usb-stick. Maybe this works for you.
  16. Is Beagle or that other indexing-programm (i forgot the name) running, if so remove them.
  17. Chris B made it that's correct but the crew of MCNL tested MCNLive from alpha till the final release. That's why i said MCNL made it. No sins Chris stopped there will be no new release of MCNLive. I think nobody has the skills r the time to take over.
  18. I agree with that, but you must agree that what (K)ubuntu does works. I know that there are a lot of folks (MUB and the MCNL) spending lots of time helping others with there problems in there free time. For example: the crew of MCNL have made MCNLive, give them a couple of cd's, also on the MUB are people who spend a lot of time in Mandriva (you're one of them). This is my last post in this topic for now, tomorrow i'm going for two weeks on holyday and there are no hotspots.
  19. The iso is free, correct. But a cd with a official print in a nice case looks better and people want to try it sooner then for instance a home burned cd. Why is (K)ubuntu such a succes. You don't killed my topic, i just wanted a nice discusion ;) The same discusion is going on the mcnl
  20. For the record, i've buy always my version of Mandriva, except for 2007(1) that didn't work on my laptop. First i try One and then buy the Powerpack. If Mandriva want's to promote their software i aspect to give me or other members some material, so whe can give it away. Euro 13 for 10 cd is not much, but if i have to promote a company and pay for it . i find it not correct. Maybe a mod can put a lock on this topic, it's getting nowhere
  21. I Think like many, you have received this e-mail from Mandriva: Many Mandriva Linux Community members have ben asking Mandriva to provide a way to get One CDs. This is now possible through Mandriva Store, you will be delivered within 2 or 3 days. A good way to spread your favourite distribution in Linux parties or among your friends! Our packs: 1 CD, 10 CDs or 30 CDs Click here: http://www.mandriva.com/en/product/mandriva-linux-one Because you also like to spread the friendly face of your favourite distribution and its community, we have also added Mandriva Linux stickers on Mandriva Store. Stickers: 10 sets, 30 sets or 50 sets Click here to get your stickers: http://store.mandriva.com/?cPath=63 The Mandriva Online team. At last we can promote Mandriva the way Ubuntu does, but at last i found out that you have to pay for the cd's. Why, i don't know. We as MCNL promote Mandriva all the time just like the MUB but still we have to pay. We are been asked to organize a install party for 2008 Spring, we have asked for promotion stuff but got nothing. How will the community will be able to promote Mandriva if whe have to pay for everything or get no promotion material from Mandriva, maybe not all the members but at least the admins and the crewmembers should get cd's and stickers for free. This is my opinion, please respond. [moved from Talk-Talk by spinynorman]
  22. I don't think he must follow me its very radical, a dualboot is the best option. He just needs to re-install Linux (Mandriva) and he can experiment with Linux, or choose for windows for the short time he wants that .
  23. The bootloader from Linux is still in the MBR you need to remove it from the MBR. If i'm correct boot from de windows cd en choose recovery mode or something like that an then something like "fixmbr" and you can start windows again. I can be wrong, i don't use windows for over 6 years. Why have you removed Linux from your HD.
  24. Have you set your softwaresources with Easy-Urpmi you need the PLF- and PLF-nonfree sources.
  25. Set the urpmi sources and the drivers for ATI whill be there, free is only open source and the drivers for ATI are closed source. Install also the kernel-source belonging to the kernel you are running. Which kernel you are running you can see by openening a console and typing uname -r
