xboxboy
From what I can understand, we have been left with KDE4.3.2 in the official repos as Mandriva work on the new KDE4.4 for 2010.1. This hasn't stopped MIB from creating packages. Discussion has occurred on official Mandriva forum Click Here The link to the MIB instructions for installing KDE4.3.5 is HERE I myself are considering upgrading, as my KDE4.3.2 isn't quite as stable as my KDE4.2.4 on 2009 was. Security concerns using the MIB repos should be minimal I expect. Can anyone please confirm this for me?
jkerr82508
Mandriva 4.3.5 packages for 2010.0 are currently in the /testing repo and should be available as official updates soon. xboxboy
Mandriva 4.3.5 packages for 2010.0 are currently in the /testing repo and should be available as official updates soon. Nicely spotted! Interesting. I may wait and see. Or is there some way I can find out how the testing is going or a possible ETA?
scarecrow
A waste of effort, IMHO. 4.4.0 is very, very close, so why packaging 400+ MB which will be obsolete within ten days?
xboxboy
A waste of effort, IMHO. 4.4.0 is very, very close, so why packaging 400+ MB which will be obsolete within ten days? I see your point of view, but I see it as a major update, where as KDE4.3.5 is mostly a bug fix, and stability is what I'm missing. But, I was unaware that KDE4.3.5 was likely coming through the official repos, and from experience, if I can stay with official software, the better....... xboxboy
Is there anyway to find out how the testing is going on this? A mailing list or other?
jkerr82508
The updates are now assigned to QA: https://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=57567 Jim
scarecrow
For the record, I'm running 4.4.0 since Tuesday, and had very few issues with the migration (just an annoyance with a broken Soprano, which has been addressed). xboxboy
I think 4.4 is meant to be used for 2010.1. So I will do a complete install for that...I'm also a little wary of running a .0 version of kde, it seems to move so fast that they can be a little rough around the edges, but the updates come quick enough to fix that. ffi
A waste of effort, IMHO. 4.4.0 is very, very close, so why packaging 400+ MB which will be obsolete within ten days? 4.3.5 is a bug fx release, 4.4.0 will be a new release with new bugs but neoclust has also packaged 4.4.0 for mandriva 2010.0 if you are adventurous, I actually did try it, I didn't encounter many bugs but too many of the new features drove me to insanity...popups and tooltips everywhere, windows maximizing at random, the desktop going to some overview mode with miniature windows at random and still basic functionality missing since kde4 has made me switch to gnome
