capnkirby
In Mandrake control center, under boot options, drakeboot, you unselect "Launch the graphical environment when your system starts". Works every time, and very easy to do.... Capn

linuxknight
If you need to get nvidia drivers, you'll have to put a line in the xconfiguration. Just open up an xterm, su, edit /etc/X11/XF86Config and change the driver line from nv or vesa to nvidia. Then hit ctrl + alt + bkspc and ignore the error. Ctrl + Alt + F1 to go to console. Login as root do sh NV* in the directory that you downloaded it in. It should compile a custom module, if you installed the necessary development tools/libs. After it finishes, either reboot or restart gdm, login, you have glx! If you just want to start with console, open up Mandrake Control Center, Boot Configuration, and Uncheck Auto Start.
