Steve Scrimpshire
I have two computers connected directly with a crossover cable. The laptop is masq and the desktop is fw. Is it a security risk to allow all traffic from masq to fw on all ports? I would think not, but wanted to ask to be sure.
fuzzylizard
That would depend on if there is anything else connected either of those computers. If one is connected to the internet and there is no firewall in place between your internet connection and your little network, then it could pose a problem. However, if the two computers are only connected to each other and nothing else, then no security threat should exist.
Steve Scrimpshire
The desktop (fw) is connected to the internet, but shorewall is blocking access from net to fw everything I don't want through. iptables is masquerading my laptop (masq). Here's an example of what I mean: ACTION SRC DEST PROTO DEST PORT SRC PORT ACCEPT net fw tcp 80 - ACCEPT masq fw tcp - - ACCEPT masq fw udp - - Edited November 18, 2003 by Steve Scrimpshire
