AA
wvdial.conf [Dialer Defaults] Modem = /dev/ttyS0 Baud = 115200 Init1 = ATZ Init2 = ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0 ;ISDN = 0 Modem Type = Analog Modem Phone = 0123070300 Username = user@worldonline.co.za Password = password Stupid Mode = on Carrier Check = on When I run "wvdial" as root the following happens: It finds the modem and dials. It sends the username It sends the password It starts pppd And then it drops the connection Tells me that "a modem hung up the phone" Now SoulSe dials into the same network if I'm not mistaken and it works fine for him...!! Anyone know why this is happening... SoulSe, if you could mail me your wvdial.conf it'd be much appreciated. If anyone else could paste their wvdial.conf in here that would also be appreciated. Guest johnKFT
Check this out http://www.mandrakeusers.org/viewtopic.php...ighlight=wvdial
AA
How is that going to help me unless I'm blind... Totally different problem...!! What I am going to do is fiddle with ppp scripts and just ignore wvdial all together...!!
Guest johnKFT
Won't bother again.
scoopy
hmmm, both threads trying to get wvdial to work, both threads have same PPP daemon has died! message. AA decides to try fiddling with ppp scripts --- which happened to be linked on that other thread. Sounds to me that johnKFT's post was right on target. :? Thanks for responding johnKFT :D and hope you get it working AA, but we don't want to discourage any of the help user's offer here. Some of us need all the help we can get.
AA
Actually the differences are quite vast... look at the error code... error code 2 = An error was detected in processing the options given, such as two mutually exclusive options being used. error code 16 = The link was terminated by the modem hanging up. I also don't have ".rpmsave" files... I use Gentoo maybe you should pay attention to what I'm saying before you tell me that someone else had the same problem...!! I was just really asking whether or not someone else had come accross my problem and whether they knew how to fix it...!! Anyway, lets not start a flame war.... Does someone know what the problem in my case is...?
Guest johnKFT
What an ungracious little man. £100 an hour if he wants any help from me again. I have had this basic problem three times now, each time with a slightly different cause but all connected by the same principle. Full details when the cheque clears. PS Thank you scoopy. mystified
Since you use gentoo this belongs in the other distros forum.
AA
well johnKFT. Since this is the same problem, where is the answer. I couldn't find one. And secondly what is the problem...? How is the modem hanging up the same as an error in the options giving. If the problem is the same thing you are going to have to explain this in a lot more detail...!! SoulSe
tut tut.... I think I'll be keeping my wvdial.conf file to myself then, I'm too scared of our problems being different and my head being chopped off for it... Anyway, this belongs in 'Other Linux Distributions' - I used wvdial in Mandrake and it worked fine.
