Frankly, is it so important to get the last-up-to-date-very-new-hot-from-the-press version of everything ? urpmi.pdate is there for those who can't wait. Hey I see the point, and as i keep telling people Mandrake don't right the apps the package em. However.... They do write the INSTALLER and its PANTS!!! YES they need feedback, but they don't make it easy!!! Nor do they see to listen.... The primary problem is that for a percentage of people the installer is destructive. That just isn't acceptable!! However, they could change the boot image to noacpi and a couple of safe options and have someone press F1 to install with acpi!!! That isn't rocket science, its ten minutes programming!!! Second is take the damned UPGRADE option away from the default.... Stick it under the F1 if anyone want to risk it!! These are two well known problems that Mandrake has been aware of for a long time... If they intend to fix the acpi or upgrade fine.... but take it away from the noobies default choice until you do!! Mandrake has a responsibility to OpenSource and Linux.... They make money from the FLOSS movcement and thats fine. However, flaky installers do a lot of harm... Its the first thing anyone sees and if I had a penny for every person who thought they'd try linuxc but the install failed I would be buying tyme island!!! and inviting you guys to come on over for free web hosting :D and tropical cocktails and some legal (shhh) since it would be legal on my Island!! Unfortunately many of the people that try this are what MS calls Business Decision Makers... They think it might be good, give it a try and it fries their data!!! Hmm, the BDM's are not usually the type to try again!!! Especially when the MS reps keep feeding them FUD.... This just confirms that the FUD was true!!!
