Linux_Fan
Hello, I have a PC (AMD Athlon 1300, memory 128 MB, 45 MB HDD ATA 100) with ML 8.0 running on it. Also, I have a laptop with window-98. What I want is having remote control of my PC on my laptop (with windows-98 ) via a network connection (ethernet). For example, at my work we take remote control of the servers (windows NT4) via a workstation (also window NT4) with eiter VNC or Netmeeting. My question is: *) what are to possibilities for remote control of linux system on a windows based system? *) are their applications like netmeeting, PCAnywhere, etc for linux? *) and can a connections be established between a windows system and a linux system (via a remote control applications)? johnnyv
What you want to control your mandrake box from your win98 laptop as in you want to admin it?, or use the apps on the linux box? for admin use webmin. for using the linux apps linux has of course vnc, amoung others. you can get a vnc client for free for windows 98 try google. was that it? BTW upgrage mandrake 8.0 to at least 8.1, it's alot better trust me. oh here is a link to a windows vnc client/server http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/
Guest Maciek
I would only recommend VNC for faster internet connections, a very good alternative would be OpenSSH. It's all about choice :)
qeldroma
Think, too. 1. Just admin -telnet, if you are in the LAN, because security isn't a problem and it is the fastest way for console. -webmin, put the ip of your laptop in the "alowed" IPs of the webmin administration. -If you want a little bit more: try "ssh -x". This will transfer App-windows if you start 'em, too. 2. COMPLETELY graphical -vnc -ssh & X (under windoz: putty for ssh, cygwin for X11)
Guest fil
Personally I preffer - SSH very secure over the net, but You have to know command lines ! - vnc inside my lan because it's give me a GUI when I need it ! - WEBMIN it's also a good choice with a browser with https (https://yourserver:10000) where your server is something like www.server.com or server.dynup.net or your IP ! Guest starbane
Try x0rfbserver. If you're comfortable with vnc, it should do the trick.
