Guest nikki6x
Hi, I wanna know how I can enable 3D acceleration for my Geeforce 3. I have downloaded and installed the new NVIDIA driver, configured XF86Config-4 to load nvidia driver... and now??? Are there other options or configurations that I must do???? The antialiasing??? I have run the "glxgears" to see the FPS and it wrote: 1744 frames in 5.0 seconds = 348.800 FPS 1891 frames in 5.0 seconds = 378.200 FPS 1883 frames in 5.0 seconds = 376.600 FPS 1883 frames in 5.0 seconds = 376.600 FPS 1879 frames in 5.0 seconds = 375.800 FPS 1877 frames in 5.0 seconds = 375.400 FPS 1882 frames in 5.0 seconds = 376.400 FPS 1883 frames in 5.0 seconds = 376.600 FPS 1862 frames in 5.0 seconds = 372.400 FPS 1875 frames in 5.0 seconds = 375.000 FPS It seems a bit slow.... What can I do to make my performance better??? Someone tell me about a script called nv_check.sh which see if the library are correctly installed. Where I can find??? Thanks Nikki AMD Athlon Thinderbird 1 Ghz RAM 372 MB Geeforce 3 T200 SB Live! 5.

pmpatrick
Here's my Module section: Section "Module" Load "dbe" # Double-Buffering Extension Load "v4l" # Video for Linux Load "extmod" Load "type1" Load "freetype" Load "/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libglx.so" I have an FX 5200. I'm failrly certain the "Load dbe" line should not be commented out. Also, check my path to libglx.so on your box. If it's there, try making the path explicit. I think "glx"is a link to it but sometimes the driver install program screws this up.
Ixthusdan
Yes, put the explicit path in, and check to make sure that there is a symlink in that spot pointing to the current Nvidia glx. The below is what is in that location on my box. lib.file:/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libdbe.a file:/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libdri.a file:/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libextmod.a file:/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libglx.so file:/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libglx.so.1.0.4496 file:/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/librecord.a file:/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libxtrap.a
bvc
Something IS wrong! lx, what's with you and cybrjackles fps's? A GF2 doesn't get that high. Either the vast majority of us have been cheated for a long time, you and cybrjackle have a secret hack  , or you and cybrjackle have something wacked out :? GF4's only get from 700 to 800, though my GF4 MX440SE is at 500 and something isn't rt, but I don't care because I do not play games in linux...I'm mean really?....what's the point?(NO, I'm not really asking  ) The highest my GF2 MX200 has ever got was around 750 back when we were at club-nihil and GF4 owners were ticked that is all they would get. Don't say the drivers have improved that much either because I had the GF2 up until a mth ago, and it only got 500fps. Obviously with the vast range of readings ONE can get between distro/driver and even install-uninstall-reinstalling the same exact driver the exact same way and getting totally diff readings, something is wrong...BIG TIME.....but what? If the game plays...play. If not, don't :P ....that's what I say  nikki6x, all the 'Options' and explainations are in the README. If you have a question about any of them specifically...I'm sure the gamers can help you there. If glxgears works....you have 3D. [EDIT]Big diff btween a gf4 ti4200 and a gf4 mx....I think tyme's on to something below with the mention of motherboards.
tyme
hey bvc....output from my geforce4 ti4200: 12905 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2581.000 FPS 20902 frames in 5.0 seconds = 4180.400 FPS 16200 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3240.000 FPS 15749 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3149.800 FPS 16434 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3286.800 FPS 15210 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3042.000 FPS during the first run i was moving my mouse around and playing with windows, the rest of them i wasn't doing anything (except the last one i just moved my mouse around a bit). looking at the xf86config-4 file you've posted nikki6x, i don't see anything wrong...what motherboard do you have?
bvc
You, you, crazies Big diff btween a gf4 ti4200 and a gf4 mx, though the insane diff still isn't justified. All anyone has to do is Search, not only this forum but others as well, for fps>then read. No sense can be made of it, and quite frankly, there should be no attempt to. To imply that a gf4 anything can run 4180.400 FPS means that a game that is great at 300fps, when you play it is doing 2300, and that's just not happening....is it? :P The mention of a motherboard is interesting and may very well be part of the prob. My NEW Abit KD7 KT400 is suppose to detect an 8xAGP card and allow it in the bios.....it does not...still at 4x. Not to mention the limitations/compat issues of agp in linux.

Ixthusdan
In linux I don't even have the ram/chip over-clocked! Actually, the gts responded better by overclocking the ram and not the chip. In windex, I run the chip at 200MHz and the ram at 380MHz. The default is 200/350, I think. It could be that the card is very well broken in, and puuuurrrrssss! Many tweaks on vid cards start in the bios. I set-up this card a while back, so I don't remember all the settings, but you can find them at various sights. The numbers I posted were window on top with mouse, window in motion, and finally window hidden. So the top numbers are more my gaming experience. tyme
I think the thing w/the glxgears read outs is different than an actual game. there's so much more to a game then what glxgears does. my fps in americas army definitely does not reach what glxgears reports :)
DragonMage
if you cover the glxgears window with something else, the framerate will jump very very high.. up to 8x sometimes. It also depends on the resolution and the size of the glxgears windows. Anyway.. this is a comparison GF2MX, Duron 750, 256 MB memory, 1024*768*32bit color, default glxgears window, everything shown. 3200 frames in 5.0 seconds = 640.000 FPS 3358 frames in 5.0 seconds = 671.600 FPS 3454 frames in 5.0 seconds = 690.800 FPS 3478 frames in 5.0 seconds = 695.600 FPS 3441 frames in 5.0 seconds = 688.200 FPS 3426 frames in 5.0 seconds = 685.200 FPS 3425 frames in 5.0 seconds = 685.000 FPS
Steve Scrimpshire
BOT: nikki, are you running glxgears with a maximized window? If I run it with a maximized window, I get: $ glxgears 1628 frames in 5.0 seconds = 325.600 FPS 1630 frames in 5.0 seconds = 326.000 FPS 1624 frames in 5.0 seconds = 324.800 FPS as opposed to my default-window-size readings above.
