It's as I suspected all along. They GPL'd the code years back themselves, got convenient amnesia, and now are trying to use it to pump the value of their stock back up...

Actually, they did worse than the GPL - they used a BSD license, which means anyone could take it and do WHATEVER they wanted - including using it in closed-source applications, no need to re-share the code changes, etc.

These guys are idiots.

Just mulling this over, I'm just so dumbfounded that there are actually people in the world that take SCO seriously. Shouldn't surprise me really. I'm a financial consultant and a (formerly practicing still licensed) lawyer. It amazes me every day how idiotic people can be with their own finances and lives... sticking money in the wrong places or having bad priorities, screwing up and doing stupid things with their lives and other people's as well... Believing a company who so emphatically tells you the sky is green shouldn't be that much of a stretch for me either... but it is.

Now that most of the information is out, SCO is shown to be full of it!

A lot of those code shown has been released in BSD license. Some of the main old Unix source (now in BSD license) can be found here:

It is notable that Caldera also released some of the older versions (up to "V7" and "32V") of UNIX under an open source license in 2002:

I expect a lot of us can move on and forget about this whole farce, anyway.
