The Wine team is proud to announce that Wine 1.0 is now available. This is the first stable release of Wine after 15 years of development and beta testing. Many thanks to everybody who helped us along that long road!

While compatibility is not perfect yet, thousands of applications have been reported to work very well. Check http://appdb.winehq.org to see the details for your favorite applications.

The source is available now. Binary packages are in the process of being built, and will appear soon at their respective download locations.

I was trying to install an application this morning using the latest version of wine in the repositories that I found (Wine 0.9.58), but the application would not properly load. I saw that this particular application I was trying to install was reported to work fine with Wine 1.0, so I downloaded and installed wine-1.0-1mdv2006.i586.rpm from the following webpage, then installed the application successfully. :D

Wine 1.0 came just in time for me. B)

I can only say that you are lucky. I just exchanged version 0.98 for 1.0 and it made absolutely no difference to the only program that I want to run. It installed OK, I even have it in the start up menu, but when I try to run it I get a splash screen which closes after about 2 seconds followed by this gibberish:

If anyone can translate that into English I would be amazed, let alone tell me how to fix it!!

Funny thing is that about a year ago I had it working (obviously on a much older version of Wine) but then I switched to running it in Virtualbox (where it runs faultlessly) but I would now like to revert to running it under Wine so I don't have to boot Windows at all - not even virtually.

viking: it might be a good idea to post your problem in the appropriate forum, someone might help you there. unless you already posted it (i didn't check, too lazy) then nevermind :)

i've installed wine, and am now trying to install watchtower library 2007...

Well, that is what I installed successfully. I'll try to recall how I did it.

1) First I Installed Wine 1.0.

2) Next I installed webcore-fonts-3.0-1.noarch.rpm from: http://avi.alkalay.net/software/webcore-fonts/ Download rpm, right-click on it and choose Open with Software Installer.

3) The next step I Double-clicked on setup.exe on the WT Lib CD. I did not change any setup options or paths. This installed two icons to the desktop. The one that looked like it should work was the wrong one.

4) Next I right-clicked on the config file and chose Properties.

5) On the General tab I typed: Watchtower Library 2007 - English for the name.

6) I clicked on the icon on the upper left and chose an icon that I thought was appropriate.

7) On the Application tab I don't think I changed anything, but here is what is there:

8) For Command: env WINEPREFIX="/home/<user>/.wine" wine "C:\Program Files\Watchtower\Watchtower Library 2007\E\WTLibrary.exe" [substite <user> with your user directory]

9) For Work Path: /home/<user>/.wine/dosdevices/c:/Program Files/Watchtower/MEPSCommon [substite <user> with your user directory]

10) Now double-click on this file and the Watchtower Library should start.

11) I moved the other desktop file Watchtower Library 2007 - English.lnk to my home user documents directory - although I believe you can delete it.

Here is a site that helped me along some with this: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?...TestingId=26307

Hope this helps.
