Guest anon
I have seen a few problems lately which makes me wonder whether some people here are using the mdk update feature. Since MDK 9.1 was released, there have been scores of updates, an unusually high number in such a short time. Here's an up to date list. I guess you all know how to use the update feature. apache2-2.0.45-4.2mdk.i586.rpm 174 KB 17/04/03 22:38:00 apache2-common-2.0.45-4.2mdk.i586.rpm 186 KB 17/04/03 22:38:00 aru
I don't know how anon did it, but this is how I would have done it ;) ~$ UPDATES_91="ftp://ftp.lip6.fr/pub/linux/distributions/mandrake/updates/9.1/RPMS" ~$ wget -qc --dont-remove-listing ${UPDATES_91}/non_match_string* ~$ mv .listing updates_91.list ~$ cat updates_91.list total 197980 -rw-r--r-- 1 victor admin 177644 Apr 17 22:38 apache2-2.0.45-4.2mdk.i586.rpm -rw-r--r-- 1 victor admin 189592 Apr 17 22:38 apache2-common-2.0.45-4.2mdk.i586.rpm -rw-r--r-- 1 victor admin 426821 Apr 17 22:38 apache2-devel-2.0.45-4.2mdk.i586.rpm -rw-r--r-- 1 victor admin 1639978 Apr 17 22:38 apache2-manual-2.0.45-4.2mdk.i586.rpm -rw-r--r-- 1 victor admin 75162 Apr 17 22:38 apache2-mod_dav-2.0.45-4.2mdk.i586.rpm -rw-r--r-- 1 victor admin 41122 Apr 17 22:38 apache2-mod_ldap-2.0.45-4.2mdk.i586.rpm -rw-r--r-- 1 victor admin 121509 Apr 17 22:38 apache2-mod_ssl-2.0.45-4.2mdk.i586.rpm -rw-r--r-- 1 victor admin 382892 Apr 17 22:38 apache2-modules-2.0.45-4.2mdk.i586.rpm -rw-r--r-- 1 victor admin 6069163 Apr 17 22:38 apache2-source-2.0.45-4.2mdk.i586.rpm ... You must provide something that doesn't match any package (something like "non_match_string"), so wget wont be able to find any package to download. Plus an "*" to force wget to download the listing of packages from the server. Ofcourse you can parse later that file at pleasure, ie, the simpliest way: ~$ awk '{print $NF}' updates_91.list 197980 apache2-2.0.45-4.2mdk.i586.rpm apache2-common-2.0.45-4.2mdk.i586.rpm apache2-devel-2.0.45-4.2mdk.i586.rpm apache2-manual-2.0.45-4.2mdk.i586.rpm apache2-mod_dav-2.0.45-4.2mdk.i586.rpm apache2-mod_ldap-2.0.45-4.2mdk.i586.rpm apache2-mod_ssl-2.0.45-4.2mdk.i586.rpm apache2-modules-2.0.45-4.2mdk.i586.rpm apache2-source-2.0.45-4.2mdk.i586.rpm .... [offtopic] Then making a script that compares that output (striping the i586.rpm part) with the one generated from 'rpm -qa' and then download those packages which are already _installed_ but which are new in the updates server is trivial No need to use some bizarre update feature that consumes all the resources from my little 200MMX cpu  [/offtopic] HTH ;)
Guest anon
Far too complicated,   Just copy/paste from loads of mirror sites. Here's the list from MDK main server: ftp://ftp.sunet.se/pub/Linux/distribution...pdates/9.1/RPMS
aru
Far too complicated,   No it is not  I've just divided it into discrete commands for clarity, but it can be done in a single step
Guest christof
"no need to user all my cpu-power for a strange update" lol I am running MDK 9.1 on a 450 Mhz P3 so I do not have a whole lot of it either... but I never had any trouble concerning the cpu-user while doing: urpmi --auto-select
Guest NSL1212
MandrakeSecure has posted the the update for Mozilla 1.3.1, all the mozilla rpms were on the mirrors; but the md5sums file still have not been updated --- no mozilla checksum in the file. I normally download the updates to my seperate /home directory. In case of re-installing again, I don't have to do the download again (on my dial-up). It's not all with the MHz you have, its the architecture.

Guest toxy
Nice thread actually, But just to ruin your high level discussion, can I ask newbie questions, and get your opinion on a possible answer to my problems. I am young and healthy. However I would probably die of natural causes before my pathetic dial up connect dowloaded all those files. So, will this work.... 1. Run mandrake update to get a list of the files it wants. 2. Download the files from ftp.sunet.se or somwhere at work (nice fast connection), pop the files on a zip disk (or 10) and take them home. 3. Make mandrake update look at the place on my system where I have put the files. 4. Relax while it does the update. Will this work? How do I accomplish number 3? Or is it obvious (havnt looked at updates thing yet). Or do I forget Mandrake Update and just use the urpmi? In this scenario, how do I force it to look just at the place I need it to? Any help, as always, gratefully received. Thanks, Tox
Ixthusdan
Quick answer: yes, it will work. Go to Mandrake Control Center and add the zip to your update sources.
Guest stodge
Wow that's a lot of updates!
tyme
i just downloaded all the updates and burnt them to a CD to send to my friend who doesn't have a fast internet connection. 300+ MB. if there's any interest, i'd make an ISO of the CD so that people can just download the ISO and burn it....instead of downloading packages one at a time...(it would have all updates as of June 22, 2003)
