Guest llorgge
I added texstar to my sources and urpmi'd it and everything looked good until the end of the install: 11:kdebase-nsplugins ################################################## error: db4 error(-30998) from db->close: DB_INCOMPLETE: Cache flush was unable to complete rpmdb: First overflow page 787 has a prev_pgno rpmdb: Overflow item incomplete on page 1393 rpmdb: Overflow page 900 of invalid type rpmdb: First overflow page 701 has a prev_pgno rpmdb: Overflow item incomplete on page 1393 rpmdb: Page 701 encountered twice in overflow traversal error: db4 error(-30979) from db->verify: DB_VERIFY_BAD: Database verification failed Is this bad? It also did it while trying to install something else...
Guest llorgge
Actually, it does the previous everytime I use urpm(i/e)...[/i]
liquidzoo
Give this a try: rpm rebuilddb as root. See if that helps. You can also use rpmdrake (Install Software from the packaging menu) and see if that works, just select kdebase-3.1.2 and it will automatically select the dependencies. Guest llorgge
[2157][root: don]$ rpm --rebuilddb error: rpmdb: damaged header instance #167 retrieved, skipping. error: rpmdb: damaged header instance #681 retrieved, skipping. error: rpmdb: damaged header instance #707 retrieved, skipping. *** dbiUpdateRecord: uh is NULL Segmentation fault (core dumped) That makes me sad. Even though it gave me all that before, I am under the impression that I was able to install whatever it was I was trying to do... just that the cache couldn't be cleared. Also, my xine (the start of this whole mess) disappeared from my menu, so at the command prompt I get: [2158][root: don]$ xine This is xine (X11 gui) - a free video player v0.9.21 (c) 2000-2003 by G. Bartsch and the xine project team. Guest llorgge
Actually, I seem to have lost most of the things in my menus...
liquidzoo
That is a little strange. Ok, maybe we can fix this. Go into your Software Sources Manager (Configuration -> Packaging menu). Write down the paths for your CD's (this is important!!!) and any other sources you have added, you can add them back later. Then delete all of the sources that are listed. Save your changes and exit the sources manager. After that, you can add your sources back in. Try that, then try to update KDE and see what happens. liquidzoo
Actually, I seem to have lost most of the things in my menus... That is not good for sure. How new is this install? What have you added recently?
Guest llorgge
On closer inspection (I def needed a break) it seems as if everything Gnome related disappeared... or more like only the KDE stuff remained (Opera, which isn't either, also went). Two things then come to mind. 1. When I updated KDE base it did actually go through and that part in the end was just clean up. 2. The update of KDE messed with my menus and since I can still run the programs they're not really gone, only removed. Also, I've lost my cd sources, but I'm going to add them back in. Thanks for your help so far.
liquidzoo
That is weird. Did you restart X after you did the update? Maybe that would help. I don't remember anything being missing when I updated KDE, but I really didn't look that closely. Everything I use on a regular basis is still there. What did you install before you had the Xine problem? Do you remember?
Guest llorgge
Well, I tried to add my cds back. /mnt/cdrom/Mandrake/RPMS ../base/hdlist1.cz I did that for the first cd and it saw it, updated it and it worked. Trying that for the second and third, not so much (I did add a 2/3 after RPMS and changed the 1 in hdlist as well, but no go).
liquidzoo
I could be wrong, but I think the hdlist doesn't change from one cd to the next. I'm glad you got the first one in, though. If we don't get an answer as to what the hdlist really is from cd 2 and 3, I will check and post when I get home to my computer.
tyme
they numbers increment cd2: RPMS2 and hdlist2.cz cd3: RPMS3 and hdlist3.cz more specifically, if you go into edit you should see: cd2- URL: removable://mnt/cdrom/Mandrake/RPMS2 Relative...: ../base/hdlist2.cz URL: removable://mnt/cdrom/Mandrake/RPMS3 Relative...: ../base/hdlist3.cz make sure you have the respective CD in your cdrom and mounted when you do the update. liquidzoo
make sure you have the respective CD in your cdrom and mounted when you do the update. Good point tyme (little 't') I hadn't thought of that.
Guest llorgge
make sure you have the respective CD in your cdrom and mounted when you do the update. thanks.... unfortunately, I had already thought of that the first time I tried it. :( I got all that info from Andrewski, who got it from tyme (thanks!), but for some reason it doesn't like my second and third cds and just his third one won't take. I'm sure it's not a typo in the commands. Do you know if updating my KDEbase would take everything out of my menu not relating to it? And if so, can I counteract that by updating the Gnome base? tyme
i have no idea why your menus became empty (And kde base shouldn't have changed anything), but trying running the menu editor...i think that should rebuild them. as for cd 2 and 3, i have no idea what's going on there. that's just straight odd.... offtopic: why does "Penn's Woods" sound familiar??
