dexter11
The new fglrx driver can be downloaded. From reading the posts here and there it looks like a must have for AMD\ATI users. Among the new features are: * X.Org 7.3 support * X.Org server 1.4 support * AIGLX support You can already read an article about it on phoronix.com. source: hup.hu
Reiver_Fluffi
From what I have seen on the Ubuntu forums, the performance from fglrx+AIGLX is a bit choppy. I have yet to get AIGLX working with Ubuntu or Mandriva with open or closed drivers (of which my card is supported by both) Edited October 24, 2007 by Reiver_Fluffi
adamw
See my blog post: http://www.happyassassin.net/2007/10/24/new-ati-drivers/ basically, we're working on a clean backport for this new driver to 2008, so if you're willing to wait a few days you should be able to upgrade to it very easily, better than downloading from upstream. zibi1981
I have some problems with making those drivers work. First I wanted to install them the easiest way just by typing as root sh ./ati-driver-installer-8.42.3-x86.x86_64.run and choosing Install Driver 8.42.3 on X.org 7.1 and later releases. It worked with 8.40.4 on Mandriva 2007.1 but not now. Although they seemed to be installed, they didn't work correctly. Then I uninstalled them and tried to generate packages for Mandriva 2008 but also with no avail [root@localhost ATI]# ./ati-driver-installer-8.42.3-x86.x86_64.run --buildpkg Mandriva/2008 Created directory fglrx-install.Ag9268 Verifying archive integrity... All good. Dark
I have my own question. I have an ATI x600 and just resinstalled cooker, to my dismay I can not find a dkms-fgrfx package in the cooker mirros, neither the newest one or the old 8.40.2 package. adamw
General update: The 8.42.3 package just hit Cooker, as you can see from the above post. We just need to test it a bit there before doing the 2008 backport.
