I just installed Mandriva Free and it appears to be a successful install. Now I would like to change the wall paper and the startup music. I’m having trouble finding information about how to do it.

Now do you do that? :P

Are you using KDE or Gnome?

With KDE, you just right click the desktop and go into the Configure Desktop option, and you can do it right in there.

For Gnome, you right click the desktop and then choose Change Desktop Background, or something like that.

For the rest, go into System/Configuration/Configure Your Desktop within KDE to change icons, sounds, etc.

Read here about GNOME and KDE.

In general, they are based on different libraries, look different and have different ideology behind. This forum has a plenty of discussions on this topic.
