bvc
1- Restart the system2- Reinstall XFree 4.2 Why?...what happens if you don't reinstall 4.2? This shouldn't be necessary.
ezroller
Can you post the contents of your /etc/XFConfig-4 on the next time you have 4.3 up?
Cannonfodder
Look in your XF86Config-4 file for a line referring to Video4Linux and comment it out. I had a slightly different problem where the screen would go blank and I would have to reinstall to fix it. This comment out solved the issue. Can you post the contents of your /etc/XFConfig-4 on the next time you have 4.3 up? Guest ndeb
Ur Device section has the line VideoRam 8192 which should also be commented out. Note that you are using the savage driver. Neither XFree-4.2.1 nor XFree-4.3.0 have the latest savage driver, which is available from http://www.probo.com/timr/savage40.html . Download the latest savage driver binary from this website and replace the file /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/savage_drv.o with the binary.
