shengchieh
Is there a README and/or INSTALL file when you unpack the tarball? Usually you need to do ./configure make make install The 1st one creates the compiling script based on your hardware. You should see makefile, Makefile, or some variants. The 2nd one compiles. the 3rd one links the executable into your $PATH. Did you run ./configure before make? Sheng-Chieh
scarecrow
No, that driver does not need running ./configure first. The above instructions are outdated. For kernels 2.6.12 and newer, go here: http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/l...el-2.6/martian/ Read the example ( http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/bigarch/ar...h/msg04852.html ) carefully. Alternatively, look at the Martian driver page 9same driver as above): http://martian.barrelsoutofbond.org/index.html Edited January 7, 2007 by scarecrow

scarecrow
I'm sorry. According to the existing documentation there is no way to make that particular Agere chip ( 11c1:048c ) working under Linux. Agere had promised a driver for that chip, but this was more than three and a half years ago... In general, none of the Agere softmodems without a DSP chip is supported (the driver initializes the modem, but ppp fails right from the start). Unfortunately yours is such a modem. emmanuel_uk
See the database for alternatives http://64.126.95.102:8080/gromitkc/winmodem.html Or get a true modem (serial) In my experience many cheap winmodem have intel chipset that you can make work under linux, but not always easy
