sjaglin
Hi, I run Mandriva 2006 and have Open Office 2.0. All works very well.......Once it's started. It takes 20 seconds to come up! I get upset because on my girlfriend's laptop Powerpoint takes half a second to launch! I have used the tweaks http://www.buziaks.com/ian/mdk10xfaster.htm by Ian But cant see any major Change (i ve changed mem to 256Mb and 10 per object). Any suggestion? PS OOo 1 was as slow... coverup
One of the Windows cheats is to preload some parts of Office and IE at boot time, ie they start will before you click on the PP button. That explains the difference in startup time.
arctic
There is a preload option available in OOo 2, too. It will speed up things even more.
ianw1974
One thing worth changing to help speed it up is this. Go into Tools, Options. Then the memory option. Set "Use for OpenOffice.org" to 128MB and "Memory per object to 20MB". Normally this does it for me.
sjaglin
I can t find the option for the preload. I found a oooqs but it is for Ooo1. Where is the preload option aplet for Ooo2??
arctic
I can t find the option for the preload.Neither can I atm. I think I remember that the system asked me for preloading when I installed OOo for the first time... It was a long time ago and I really can't remember exactly where that stuff is/was hidden. scarecrow
There is a quickstarter for OOo2, here DISCLAIMER: Never used it, and probably I will never do so. Better edit your /openoffice/share/dict/ooo/dictionary.lst file, and load just the dictionaries you really need. This will improve the boot speed and RAM usage quite a bit.
