ianw1974
I installed VMware on 2006, and ran vmware-config.pl to configure the system. However, it seems to go OK, and then when the service starts, Bridged networking fails. I then stopped the service, and tried to start it again, and it prompts me that it hasn't been configured and I need to run vmware-config.pl. Unfortunately, the second time it won't run it. So I rebooted, to rerun it, and then this time chose Yes to host networking and Yes to NAT, but the same thing happens again. Has anyone got VMware running under 2006 yet? scarecrow
Which VMWare? 5.5 is out, and should work on 2006 without issues. For older VMware versions there's no way to run them properly "as they are" on kernels 2.6.12.X and higher, but this is resolved using Petr's any-any patch. You should also need another patch for kernels that have 1G of RAM enabled with lowmem settings (e.g. the stock PCLinuxOS kernels).
ianw1974
Mine is 5.0 I believe, so probably explains the problem. I'll download the patch and see how I get on. Many thanks :P
jaraeez
Just to pitch in... I found 5.5 alot better. In Linux you can now have bridge mode on a wireless card which I find valuable & the sound is a lot better now in your image OS well in mine it is .. However not everything is rosy, and handling of USB devices is more troublesome than before. Many times you just MUST unload the related USB modules by hand in the host OS before the guest can make good use of them. ianw1974
Currently requesting my boss to get VMware 5.5 both for Windows and Linux, since we already have a previous release purchased for Windows. But I'd rather use the Linux version :P
linux_trojan
I was having trouble too. I run vmware using NAT. There was a problem with VMware overwriting /etc/resolv.conf. Take a look at this link at the VMware site: http://www.vmware.com/community/thread.jsp...28328&tstart=
