Trio3b
Trying Speedstream 5360 ADSL modem with Mandriva 2005LE/ LAN connection. SBC tech says it is a supported modem. Also shows up in linux HCL. I have power, DSL signal, Ethernet up, but this unit will not resolve any hosts. SBC tech said something about a special RJ11 phone cord. Whaaaa........? If I use my 2Wire SBC supplied modem - everything is fine. Aren't these units essentially the same? Must be missing something simple. Thanks for any help. ianw1974
Are you saying that the ADSL modem is a router? If so, are your IP's being allocated by DHCP, or are you using static? As far as I know, but I could be wrong, that not all routers will act as a DNS proxy. This means, you use the router IP as your DNS, and the router then passes your request to the ISP's DNS servers. I'd suggest configuring with a static IP address outside the routers DHCP range if it's offering DHCP, and then configure it to be the default gateway, and make sure your DNS servers are configured using the ISP ones, and not pointing to the router itself. Hope that helps, if not, please post back with results. Also, it might be an ipv6 problem, in that case add the following to /etc/modprobe.conf alias net-pf-10 off and if you're using firefox, then type about:config in the url bar, and type ipv6 to filter, and change the option from false to true, to disable ipv6 in firefox.
