Guest Sam3773 Posted September 21, 2005 Report Share Posted September 21, 2005 Hey all, first time posting here. Just got Mandrake 10.1 and installed without any problems, now i've configured my network and it has the icon in the corner saying "network is up on interface eth0". However, when i try to loads up any internet browser or instant chat program, it says it can't connect, but the network is clearly connected because i can ping websites and my ifconfig is telling me i'm sending and recieving packets, any ideas? Thanks, Sam3773. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
devries Posted September 21, 2005 Report Share Posted September 21, 2005 Firewall? Lower security settings? Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Guest Sam3773 Posted September 21, 2005 Report Share Posted September 21, 2005 Firewall completely turned off and the security settings are on medium. Wouldn't the firewall block the pings, anyway. Thanks, Sam3773. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
ianw1974 Posted September 22, 2005 Report Share Posted September 22, 2005 Can you do an ifconfig -a and post the results, will help me see if there is a slight issue somewhere. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Guest Sam3773 Posted September 22, 2005 Report Share Posted September 22, 2005 Sure. eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:40:2B:49:78:DF inet addr:192.168.1.3 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 inet6 addr: fe80::240:2bff:fe49:78df/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:76 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:46 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:9193 (8.9 Kb) TX bytes:3978 (3.8 Kb) Interrupt:9 Base address:0x5000 lo Link encap:Local Loopback inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0 inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1 RX packets:90 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:90 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:5892 (5.7 Kb) TX bytes:5892 (5.7 Kb) sit0 Link encap:IPv6-in-IPv4 NOARP MTU:1480 Metric:1 RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:0 (0.0 B ) TX bytes:0 (0.0 B ) I know that the network is working because i used the shared network files to get the IFconfig -a results to my laptop. :) Thanks, Sam3773. arctic Posted September 22, 2005 Report Share Posted September 22, 2005 Try with disabling IPV6 on your system ( 192.x.x.x shows me that you are probably using a router that ain't capable of working on ipv6 networks). We have many posts on that on this board, so please use the search-function on the following keywords: ipv6 resolv.conf modprobe.conf Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Guest Sam3773 Posted September 22, 2005 Report Share Posted September 22, 2005 Thanks, i turned IPV6 off in modprobe and it works like a dream now. :) Well.. Kopete tells me my password's wrong and gaim won't connect but it's the usual errors. Cheers for all your help! :D Thanks, Sam3773. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
