Best games for linux

Recommended Posts

I was wondering what is an enjoyable game, whether FPS, flight sim, or other that runs natively on Linux?

Never played anything but GNUChess on linux, looking to expand my linux gaming horizons. :cheesy:

I've found these to be my favorites:

Unreal Tournament (virtually ever version has either linux installer on cd or easily downloaded off net)

America's Army (not so much but still good)

Battle for Wesnoth (great strategy game. Reminds me of old Avalon Hill games)

Blobwars (platformer but fun somehow)

Supertux (you like mario? This is mario with linux :))

Those are my favorites, but if you look through this forum you'll find not only sites dedicated to linux gaming, but some reviews as well (look at the stickies)

Wow, didn't know that you could get those for linux. This requires further investigating. Unreal Tourn. sounds like a good place to start.

If you really like Fantasy Strategy turn based games take a look at Dominions 2 www.illwinter.com

It got the absolutly best Gameplay I ever tried. The combinations and aspect in that game is unlimited! You should even try my mod I made for it, you can find it at some of the mod sites, it's called Forest of Loren inspired of warhammer.

The game is not free though, but it's worth its money.

SO wait a minute. Are you guys saying that it's possible to play games, like current title games, with 3d graphics and stuff on linux?

Linux? nah, I'm not buying it no way. This is just a server OS and something for computer junkies/geeks/whoever to play with. LOL

(Now I'm going through the above links to find more games to enjoy)

More of those with Cedega (www.transgaming.org)

p.s. I don't play games though, so this is not really my problem category.

p.p.s. Nobody has to buy Linux, it can be used free ;)

A warning though about cedega. It generally only plays well recent games which are popular to the people who buy cedega. Most windows games I've tried (I got hundreds from the last ten or so years) don't work. Several however work as well or better.
