WoMBaT
Looks like I replied a few minutes after you. Can you confirm what mesa items you have? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I have the following: libMesaGL1-5.0.2-9mdk libMesaGLU1-5.0.2-9mdk libMesaglut3-5.0.2-9mdk Mesa-5.0.2-9mdk Mesa-demos-5.0.2-9mdk xmms-mesa-1.2.10-16mdk
WoMBaT
I usually put it at the bottom of the file. If you're having problems locating these, suggest adding the urpmi repositories: http://www.mandrivausers.org/easyurpmi I add all of them, make sure you have 2005 selected, and go through and add. If you have a slow internet connection, use the compressed index option. Then have another search for mesa. As this is missing, you'll not be able to run glxgears any faster than it seems to be running at present. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I put the SectionDRI right after the first Section. I did the easyurpmi and updated EVERYTHING :D I am on a 3MB broadband connection, so it didn't take long By the IANW1974..you rock!!! ianw1974
Whats your fps now? I'm assuming a lot faster?
WoMBaT
Whats your fps now? I'm assuming a lot faster? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Loading required GL library /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1.2 1994 frames in 5.0 seconds = 398.800 FPS 2240 frames in 5.0 seconds = 448.000 FPS 2100 frames in 5.0 seconds = 420.000 FPS 3220 frames in 5.0 seconds = 644.000 FPS 3780 frames in 5.0 seconds = 756.000 FPS 3780 frames in 5.0 seconds = 756.000 FPS 3920 frames in 5.0 seconds = 784.000 FPS 3780 frames in 5.0 seconds = 756.000 FPS 3360 frames in 5.0 seconds = 672.000 FPS so about the same, maybe a little faster? I'm still not getting ANYTHING close to what others are getting with glxgears. When I do glxinfo it still says, "direct rendering: No" It's starting to look like the same old story, I wish I understood all this. Let me know if I need to post any outputs from glxinfo, xorg.conf, etc.. Edited June 21, 2005 by WoMBaT
ianw1974
From the prompt, type glxinfo | grep direct this will give you the info you need to find out whether direct rendering is enabled. If not, check the section in /etc/X11/xorg.conf and make sure it's as: Section "DRI" Mode 0666 EndSection The quotes for DRI are important. The Mode 0666 allows all users to run Direct rendering. Also, although it should be in there, look for a load "dri" line.
ianw1974
As a side note, this is my glxgears on an Intel Extreme, 32MB RAM: [ian@ianlinux X11]$ glxgearsLoading required GL library /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1.2 2814 frames in 5.0 seconds = 562.800 FPS 2898 frames in 5.0 seconds = 579.600 FPS 2900 frames in 5.0 seconds = 580.000 FPS 2898 frames in 5.0 seconds = 579.600 FPS 2896 frames in 5.0 seconds = 579.200 FPS Broken pipe [ian@ianlinux X11]$ The 128MB ATI Radeon 9250 comes in at around 1200fps on my other system. ianw1974
OK, in essence we should be able to get near 1200fps then. Suggest attempting the ATI drivers again. Brief install routine: 1.Open CLI and su and root password. 2.Type init 3 (will exit the GUI to prompt). 3.Login as normal, then su and root password. 4.Run the rpm -Ivh --force as previously mentioned in this post or use the new ATI installer routing. 5.On completion, run fglrxconfig and go through this config. And see what happens next? You can't be any worse off anyway.
WoMBaT
Which do you think is better: the ATI .rpm or the ATI Installer? I have previously tried both, to no avail. Neither one changed anything. I will try once more. :P P.S. And i should be getting the .rpm for Xorg 6.8, right? P.P.S. I am doing all this logged in as root, not the normal account. I haven't even logged in as the user since reinstalling. That's okay for now right; until I get the 3d running? ianw1974
You can do it logged in as normal account, but you have to su and supply root password to get root privileges. You also have to install the drivers from a CLI prompt and not with the GUI running (init 3 solves that prob). When I installed the drivers, the installer wasn't out and I used the rpm for xorg. If you're using 10.1 OE or higher, then it's xorg, 10.0 OE was XFree86.
WoMBaT
Okay, here goes with the .rpm...be back in a few.

WoMBaT
Of course I've lost sound now :D But, hey that's happened to a lot of people according to these forums. I'll do some research and get it fixed; the sound is soooo secondary to the 3d for me. WoMBaT
WoMBaT
Just did a quick search...followed the advice of one VERY bright person (and guess who that person would be IANW1974 :D ) Used Configure My Desktop and low and behold....system sound was not enabled!!! Works great. Now I'm off to redownload America's Army for Linux so my son and I can play tonight. He on the WinXP server and me on the Linux laptop; how cool is that?!!
