neddie
When I connect my camera up to the USB and switch it on, Konqueror pops a dialog box up automatically asking if I want to import pictures from it. I'd rather use Digikam for this rather than Konqueror, but I can't see how to stop the Konqueror popups - any clues? This seems to be a new "feature" of LE2005. And if I stop those popups, would it also stop the auto-mounting of USB sticks (which I'd like to keep) ? arctic
don't know about konqueror (long time ago since i used kde...) but "killing" the popups should not stop the usb-sticks and other removable devices from getting automounted. (it never happened to me in gnome)
neddie
Does that mean that noone else here has these popups, or noone else here has ever wanted to get rid of them?
scarecrow
I don't have them with my camera... just an icon appearing on the desktop.
rolf
In Menu > System > Configuration > Hardware > Removable Storage, there is an entry for importing photos when the digital camera is connected. This module is also available in gnome-control-center Edited June 8, 2005 by rolf
neddie
Brilliant, spot on! I haven't got my camera with me at the moment to test, but it looks like exactly what I was looking for - thank you!
AussieJohn
Hello Rolf. I cannot find ¨removeable storage¨ in my MCC. What package did you install to get this ??? It looks great and I could use too.  Cheers. John.
neddie
No, not in the MCC, straight from the Menu under System -> Configuration -> Hardware -> Removable Storage. At least, that's where it is for me in 2005LE.
AussieJohn
Thank you Neddie, got it now. You are a champ. Cheers. John.
AussieJohn
Neddie or others, I get this message even though I have everything installed that even hints at hald e.g. hal etc and the haldaemon is set to active in MCC. Â John.
neddie
Got me there. Never heard of hal before, never seen that message. I have got a service running called haldaemon, and I've got packages hal and libhal0, but apart from reading the text about "collection and maintaining system hardware information" I dunno. Do you get that error when you plug in your camera?
AussieJohn
No I do not have a camera to plug in, and the various items you mentioned, I have also. I would like to use it to auto start dvd movies and cds. Hopefully some one has a clue to help us. Â John.
arctic
try to run /etc/cron.daily/prelink and reboot the system. maybe it helps. i think i remember that fedoracore3 had an identical bug which was caused by some packages that were updated and running the prelink solved it. AussieJohn
Hi Arctic. I am sorry to say that did nothing. I tried combinations of that and variations but no luck. Thanks for trying. Anyone else have ideas ????. Cheers. John.
neddie
Back to the original question, this is now solved thanks to rolf. In fact, even better than getting rid of the Konqueror popup, I managed to edit the script so that Digikam starts up instead - bonus!
