Slagathor
Does compiling the kernel put on the CPU????? I want to test one of my PC's, just bumped it up a notch, to make sure for stability. I found a little script that compiles the kernel over and over and over. I also have CPU burn for K7. Thought about running them at the same time..... Any thoughts?????? scarecrow
Kernel builds are cpu intensive for sure, and take some time to finish.
iphitus
Depends really, most kernel builds will put 'stress' on the system, primarily just putting the CPU up to 100 for a little while. Although it really isnt 'stressing it a lot, a truly stressed system would have plenty of disk IO and the like. For me with my kernel config, it only takes 7 minutes to compile a kernel. paul
try compiling OOo .. that should stress it
Slagathor
I tryed OpenOffice on the kids PC, got sick of it. But I compiled the kernel for about 2 hours, then ran CPUroastK7 for a couple more hours. Before that I ran Memtest86+ for hours, then ran 15 pass's on test 5 and 7. SHould be good to go.......:D:D
adamw
cpuburn does a fine job of stressing the CPU...if it passes cpuburn, you don't have to worry about that part of the system.
