finlay
I recently received one of these from Tiscali. harddrake reports an unknown device. When I set up the connection using MCC it fails at testing the connection with "you don't seem to be connected to the internet"! I downloaded the Eagle-usb-2.00 driver and installed it though I get an error about DSL. (I have installed kernel-sources) When I run eaglestat I get an error message about pre-firmware and sometimes a message saying eagle-usb driver not installed. Surely I've just installed the eagle-usb driver! This is driving me mad. Can anyone help, please.
devries
Did you install the rpm? http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat/4/idp...k.i586.rpm.html What does lsmod give? (open a console, login as root and type lsmod) Is the eagle module listed? PS: Next time always take the ethernet modem. Sure you might have to pay E20/30 for it but it saves you so much problems. :)
finlay
lsmod doesn't list the eagle... I didn't use the rpm but I'll give it a go. As to the modem I just took the one they sent me. There was no choice, I'm afraid. BTW here's a fuller description of what happened when installing the eagle driver: It got to "loading module OK" then "loading DSP and options [error]" I rebooted and did startadsl and got "modem is not operational, check eaglestat" . Did so and got eagle-usb module not loaded" Sigh.
finlay
Further to this: I installed the rpm as you suggested. But still no module and no connection to the internet Please tell me what I'm doing wrong here. I have the modem connected (runs under Windows). run the rpm and it installs. Open MCC/ intenet/new connection. check ADSL check ppoA (I've also tried ppoe) check don't connect on boot (because the one time I checked connect on boot the boot process stopped at bringing up interface ppp0) check connect now and nothing happens. I get you don't seem to be connected to the internet. Reboot. Same. Am I missing some configuration steps? Is there a connection frontend? I'm getting my work done in Windows - but not happily. Any advice gratefully received and will be much appreciated.
finlay
The big question is : How do I install the module? I thought the rpm would do that automatically. Further to this:I installed the rpm as you suggested. But still no module and no connection to the internet Please tell me what I'm doing wrong here. I've downloaded two separate versions of the eagle driver to no effect. I uninstalled the driver I downloaded and installed the version that came with Mdk. Harddrake still lists the modem as an unknown device and no internet connection. The site seems full of people who've failed to get this thing working. It seems to be a matter of chance... Would you be kind enough to tel me exactly what you did to set it up? Edited March 6, 2005 by finlay
bergamote
I'll try to help though I'm not an expert. The fact is that with mdk 10.1 OE, I didn't have to do much. I used the MCC , the modem was detected and the driver installed then I ran eagleconfig in a terminal and answered all the questions about the ISP and my login and password. I also had to edit the file etc/resolv.conf With previous versions of mdk I had to do the configuration in a terminal. First , can you tell us which modem you have? Mine is 800 E2L. I undersatnd there are newer models.
finlay
Many thanks for getting back to me. It's the 800 E3. I can't even get started because MCC doesn't even recognize the modem. All I get is "unknown device" I just booted into Linux and ran eagleconfig. Chose UK01 and got the message "loading module [error] so obviously something's preventing the module from being loaded. bergamote
I checked the site eagle-usb.org and here's some information which might solve your problem. The modem 800 E3 will not work with the driver included in mdk 10.1. You need to install the driver 2.0. and then replace the files in /etc/eagle-usb/dsp with the ones you can download from http://eagle-usb.org/download/dsp20041025.tar.bz2 See this http://dev.eagle-usb.org/wakka.php?wiki=DevEagleUsbIII
finlay
Many thanks for this. You are very kind to go to all this trouble. I've now printed the notes you gave me the URL to. I have a lot of work to do so won't be able to get into Linux till some time tomorrow. Whatever happens, I'll get back to you and let you know how I get on. Once again, thank you so much. You're a star. :D Finlay update: I followed your advice and the driver is now installed, the module loaded and the modem recognised....BUT I get all positive messages until "waiting for modem to be operational" then an error. eagleconfig -w fails to synchronise the modem. I'm going to send the readout from eagleconnect to eagle-usb4linux and see if they can help, though I find their documentation very techie.
