Steve Scrimpshire
We need more info. What model card is it? Do you have it set up and recognized by the system? Do you get an IP? What did you have for breakfast? These commands as root from a console will help give us more info: lspci -v dmesg ifconfig Edited February 27, 2005 by Steve Scrimpshire
enolagay
hi sorry yes i had eggs and sausages this morning. more seriuosly though, its a motorola 'surf board 5100' i know 'we' dont talk about windows on here, but it works fine now on xp via the ethernet cable. so therefore she's connected ok. this is somewhat perplexing as one would be led to believe linux is , as it were, is web oriantated see what i mean? oh sorry bud, the ethernet card is a 'net gear' card. apparently made by national semiconductors. regards
Guest anon
I had one of those (not the breakfast, the cable modem ) Try going into the mandrake control centre and set it up as a lan connection instead of cable. Shot in the dark, you on telewest ?
enolagay
hi. i will try that. yes telewest. it works fine on other pc. and ok guys i will try these commands and report back with the results. regards.
adamw
Yes, just set it up as a LAN connection with automatic IP configuration (i.e. all the defaults, pretty much). As far as your PC is concerned, that's what cable network -> cable modem -> ethernet card is, a LAN connection. It doesn't really know it's a cable connection. Guest anon
yes telewest. it works fine on other pc. OK, i was asking because telewest required you to enter your hardware address into your account page with them every time you added or changed your computer. But having just checked their site i read that they no longer require this.
enolagay
success! in the end guys i tried just about everything. and what i had to do was re install mandrake from scratch, and this time it found my ethernet card while it was loading everything up. when i first used konquerer it is already working. so must have set itself up! i am writing this very post to you all on my mandrake system. and i am indeed trully gratefull. i shall post again in the future if i need any further help. many thanks to you all.
