  1. thanks in the bootloader section of the control centre its like this at the moment.............. bootloader to use.....................lilo with graphical menu boot device /dev/hda delay before booting default image 10 the 3 boxes below are un-ticked. i have an option to boot from grub or textbased lilo in the first line. and 3 or 4 different boot devices in the second line. but all end with 'a' before i go any further, should i now set drake as slave and xp as master? anyone??????? thanks
  2. hi i need to dual boot from 2 seperate hard drives, and need to know how to actually get into lilo and what the 'exact' commands are to type and how to re-save the new settings. someone did tell me but it didnt work. maybe his spelling was wrong or something. thanks
  3. think i got that! thanks, i'll try it and get back. thankyou 4 your help :D
  4. hi its lilo. and i have now put xp as slave and mandrake as master. i just need to know now how to edit lilo or something as i get no option at booting up. iv also just found some more info saying i should have kept mandrake as the slave and somehow installed just the linux boot loader onto my xp's drive. argggggggg. the more i look into this the harder it gets! i just really need some easy instructions how to do it, then i'll be laughing. many thanks 4 replying rsvp
  5. hi. i know i spelt it wrong. seriously though. i have read many posts on here and elsewhere on how to dual boot using two hard drives. only there is so much conflicting information regarding this. i would really like to know how to do this properly. im no computer expert but not totally silly. im mean, what jumper settings are needed, i.e what is cable select? i thought that would do it! basically i have xp on one drive and mandrake on the slave. just another piece of info, when i now go into windows i cannot find the mandrake drive yet its there because when i connect it as a master only it works fine. surley there is an easy way to alter something in xp to give me an option on initial start up. any help written easy to understand is most welcome. surley there is an easy way? regards all.
  6. success! in the end guys i tried just about everything. and what i had to do was re install mandrake from scratch, and this time it found my ethernet card while it was loading everything up. when i first used konquerer it is already working. so must have set itself up! i am writing this very post to you all on my mandrake system. and i am indeed trully gratefull. i shall post again in the future if i need any further help. many thanks to you all.
  7. hi. i will try that. yes telewest. it works fine on other pc. and ok guys i will try these commands and report back with the results. regards.
  8. hi sorry yes i had eggs and sausages this morning. more seriuosly though, its a motorola 'surf board 5100' i know 'we' dont talk about windows on here, but it works fine now on xp via the ethernet cable. so therefore she's connected ok. this is somewhat perplexing as one would be led to believe linux is , as it were, is web oriantated see what i mean? oh sorry bud, the ethernet card is a 'net gear' card. apparently made by national semiconductors. regards
  9. hi all. i have installed an ethernet card and connected it via the relevent cable to my broadband modem, (which is working fine). but cannot seem to connect to the web. any help would be most welcome. regards.
  10. hi dev, well, nothing happenes when i plug it in. but i know usb detection must be working as it finds my webcam no problem. its a motorola surfboard 5100. it came with an installation cd which i cant seem to get to work. regards
  11. hi guys, anyone know how to get my usb broadband modem to work with mandrake ? i have the installation cd ect. as i cant find any info on here. respect.
  12. fantastic! thanks guys, it worked almost a treat. i now have a pretty cool installation of mandrake. on the second cd it said a few files were missing an to click on the continue buttton anyway, which i did. and does not seem to have affected it at all. and i still absolutley have no idea at all what the md5sum check programme is for which i downloaded. all i need to do now is get my telewest broadband modem to work with it and im laughing.(which is the main reason i wanted mandrake) ive looked all over for advice on how to set my modem up. should i start a new post for this topic or keep this one going? thanks for the advice. regards
  13. thanks but how do i check this md5sum of the iso's?and not tell my burning prog to verify ect? i simply dragged and dropped the files into my blank cds using just xp. hence no actual burning software as such. although im probably asking too much but i think i virtually need step by step instructions for this. i have read many posts on this topic on here but just cant seem to get it to go. im looking forward to using mandrake, eventually! thanks once again.
  14. hi all, this is my first time on this forum. i shall tell you my problem. i have downloaded mandrake 10.1 on 3 cds and have indeed checked them. now i have got a spare hard drive which has been formatted. and connected to my pc as the primary master. i have altered bios to 1st boot from cd but it will not do anything, all it says is 'press any key to restart', which i done 999 times the cd drive light flickers ect but will not do anything. i tested the same drive with an xp disc and it works fine. when i explore any of the 3 cds via xp they all have a file on them which windows says it cannot read. so i know there is 'stuff' on them, as it were. i downloaded these via broadband and used good quality media. i would love to know what is wrong as i am slightly confused to say the least. any help will be most welcome. regards
