Firewall

Hi! Im running Mdk 10 powerpack and i have a dial up connection? is needed to enable the firewall and also an antivirus (with mdk 10 powepack comes Kaspersky and doctor web), or is it secury to surf on the net without them?

No need of anti-virus program. And if you're on Dial up connection I can't see any reason for a firewall.

skip the antivirus. but even if you are using a dial-up connection, i tend to say "use the firewall, luke...". it won't harm your system. it can only make your system safer. ;)

I agree, otherwise, you are assuming the attacker is a human who is sitting there whereas it can be an automated (coded) intruder taking advantage of some exploit.

Hi again! thanx for the replies. Ok i´ll install a firewall them. I see mandrakes one a bit poor. I want one as Zone alarm or in that style. And i dont want to configure on my own the iptables. So do u Is it good? thanx!!!

shorewall is actually quite good IMO, but if you want something a little more zonealarm-like you could try firestarter.

 

There should be mdk packages available for it too!
