dickohead
Hey Guys, I got hold of the "xorg-x11-6.8.0-0.100.1mdk.i586.rpm" and when i tried to install it it tells me that: Some package requested cannot be installed:xorg-x11-6.8.0-0.100.1mdk.i586 (due to unsatisfied libxkbfile.so.1) So i searched for libxkbfile.so.1 and downloaded " libxorg-x11-6.8.0-0.100.1mdk.i586.rpm" So of course i'm going to click okay and lose everything! :o Is there an easy fix for this ridiculous RPM problem? I am running mandrake 10 official, fully up-to-date. devries
No there is no easy fix. Mandrake 10 came with XFree86 and all packages were build against that. If you want to use X.org you'll have to uninstall and install all these packages because of dependency issues. Maybe you should wait a few more weeks for Mandrake 10.1. This wil come with the new X.org.
Marvel
and then updating Xorg with an RPM isn't a big problem anymore ? Edited September 14, 2004 by Marvel
dickohead
no, 10.1 just comes with Xorg, which if you say is only a couple of weeks away... that would be great!!! I'm just a little edgey about updating to 10.1... cos everything works so well right now :D
Qchem
You'll probably get a few problems with rpm and the xorg server anyway - some will have xfree as a dep. Fedora have moved towards X agnostic rpms and IMO mandrake should do the same - GNU/Linux is about choice after all.
bvc
I completely agree. Mandrake put the icing on the cake when they made XFree86-4.3 a dep of kde-3.2 and gnome-2.6. Silly.
Artificial Intelligence
I can't remember where I found it, but there is a place with rpm Xorg 6.7.99 and something which works well with Mandrake that I've been using with no problems. I'll get back to you when I find it. Edit: Found the place but they upgraded them to Xorg 6.8 :o It was here they had it: ftp://mandrake.contactel.cz/people/svetlj...roken/10.0/RPMS Edited September 14, 2004 by Artificial Intelligence
