ac_dispatcher
Yep Im already on that. #emerge -u xorg-x11 One thing to check (got me) in your /etc/X11/xorg.conf if it has: Identifier "Keyboard1" Driver "Keyboard" Change it to: Identifier "Keyboard1" Driver "kbd" Shadows look better, so does some transparancy stuff. Very smooth
Marvel
Are there coming Mandrake RPM's of this release ? And can i install them with URPMI ?
KopiX
You won't likely be seeing MDK RPM's until the release of 10.2(?) sometime later this month(?), the same with KDE 3.3 RPM's.. Guess there isn't enough time to test them and remove all the bugs properly.. Building it was a breeze though :)
tyme
10.1 is the next Mandrake release, and it will not contain the new X.org as the version freeze for 10.1 occured already.

iphitus
what exactly is the purpose of these 6.8 rpm's? Seriously. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> i dont know, people might actually like to try it before the next release!
bvc
No!, you think? rpm's are so you don't have to compile. What good are they if they don't have in them, or separate, transset and xcompmgr? So, you end up having to get all the right devel pkgs and compile. Otherwise, it's just X.....keep what you have. neutron
I've a few questions about the new xorg release (I admit being a newbie :P): I'd like to try 6.8 on mdk 10.1 which should be released today (look over here) I'm not really sure how to install 10.1 with xorg 6.8. In mdk 10 I only select the x11-client (not the x11-100dpi-fonts and 75dpi-fonts packages because I'm using the bitstream vera fonts and definitely not the x11 dev packages. So I think I've a pretty small basic x11 environment. My question is how to do that in 10.1 with 6.8. Offcourse I've to install 10.1 without x11 because the version 10.1 offers is 6.7. But then what? I was thinking of using this url as repository and only install "xorg-x11-6.8.0-1mdk.i586.rpm" with its dependencies (e.g. libs). I've no idea if the rpms listed on this site are meant for mdk 10 or 10.1. Does anyone know if this is possible? Or should I use the rpmpbone link dickohead gave (already outdated I think, correct link is =34]this one? By the way, I'm gonna use this website as repository for gnome 2.8 which should also be released today. I think it is a great combination, mdk 10.1, xorg 6.8 and gnome 2.8 :D

neutron
it's should work according to your plan ;) thx!...for the link to the rpm's <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Great to hear that. I'm still not sure if the gnome packages on the URPMI source I gave are the final 2.8 packages. E.g. there is a package named gtk+2.0-2.5.2-0.1gpw.i586.rpm, which is build on august 29... Your screenshot is named ... community.... Community isn't out yet I thought, or did I miss something :P ? Very, very nice screenshot btw :D In fact, one of the nicest I've ever seen. I've no idea what kind of icons you're using though...

Go drag a window in 6.7, now drag it with 6.8, smoother aint it? And a whole load of work has gone into my lappy's graphics card's driver, meaning better stability and performance, w00t! I was selfish and forgot about its early devel stage and vid-cards. Edited September 16, 2004 by bvc
