  1. I know, but renaming xf86Config to xorg.conf and changing "keyboard" to "kbd" didn't work. That's why I created a new xorg.conf file with xorgconfig. Thnx anyway :D Btw, my scroll wheel doesn't work, mouse driver is "auto". Got to work on that.
  2. Yeah! Typing this from within kde WITH xorg 6.8 The problem was that my xorg.conf was just empty.... By launching 'xorgconfig' I managed to get a working xorg.conf file. I've also several minor problems, I don't know for sure if this is the appropiate place to mention them (if not tell me plz). Biggest problem is: How can I keep my bookmarks.html from firefox in sync with the bookmarks.html on my windows partition? Symlinking them isn't going to work b/c bookmarks.html won't get updated. :o
  3. Thnx for your suggestions! Loading the correct settings through XFdrake didn't work for me ("failed to setup write-combining range"). I've renamed XF86Config-4 to xorg.conf and seems to make a difference, b/c 'startx' now gives another output: "failed to setup write-combining range" "no core keyboard found" Changing "driver" "keyboard" to "kbd" gives: "no driver kbd exist" :o
  4. Hi guys! I just tried to install kde 3.3 with xorg 6.8 (thac's urpmi repository) on a fresh installed mandrake 10 box (ofcourse I deselected xfree86 and kde). I had really bad luck with his kde 3.3 rpms (libkdecore4 couldn't instal b/c of a libjasper.so file or something like that. But xorg 6.8 DID install (I didn't understand some things like 'moving /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xserver to /etc/X11/xserver .... linking to /etc/X11/xserver). Then I decided to install kde 3.2. Everything went smooth, but now when I boot I get the usual bootsplash and then ..... the prompt When I do a mdkkdm or xdm nothing happens and a ' startx' has the following output: created .Xauthority file . Execve failed for /etc/X11/X (errno 2) xinit: server error When I shutdown I see the following messages: errno 3: network unreachable, unable to connect to xserver I've read several post of users who managed to configure xorg 6.8 correctly so I was wondering if those user can help me. Thnx in advance.
  5. Can anyone tell me if it's possible to update mdk 10 to 10.1 so I can use the new gnome 2.8? (Only available for 10.1). Is it just a matter of pointing my URPMI sources to cooker? /offtopic He cybrjackle, how is reiserfs4 performing? :D Is it noticible better than reiserfs3 or is it more a placebo effect?
  6. Can you tell me if there were any serious bugs in kde 3.3, or were they just minor irritations? Thnx!
  7. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I just saw on osnews that Mdk 10.1 Community has been released. Appearently that's the same as you have. I thought that Community was instant available for the public, but the link says it's only available for clubmembers. :o
  8. bvc, which of the two links did you use for xorg 6.8, the rpmbone or the /probably broken/blablabla link? Did you guys already know that xorg 6.8.1 has been released? See xorg website for details. Hope to see a rpm version soon.
  9. Great to hear that. I'm still not sure if the gnome packages on the URPMI source I gave are the final 2.8 packages. E.g. there is a package named gtk+2.0-2.5.2-0.1gpw.i586.rpm, which is build on august 29... Your screenshot is named ... community.... Community isn't out yet I thought, or did I miss something :P ? Very, very nice screenshot btw :D In fact, one of the nicest I've ever seen. I've no idea what kind of icons you're using though...
  10. I've a few questions about the new xorg release (I admit being a newbie :P): I'd like to try 6.8 on mdk 10.1 which should be released today (look over here) I'm not really sure how to install 10.1 with xorg 6.8. In mdk 10 I only select the x11-client (not the x11-100dpi-fonts and 75dpi-fonts packages because I'm using the bitstream vera fonts and definitely not the x11 dev packages. So I think I've a pretty small basic x11 environment. My question is how to do that in 10.1 with 6.8. Offcourse I've to install 10.1 without x11 because the version 10.1 offers is 6.7. But then what? I was thinking of using this url as repository and only install "xorg-x11-6.8.0-1mdk.i586.rpm" with its dependencies (e.g. libs). I've no idea if the rpms listed on this site are meant for mdk 10 or 10.1. Does anyone know if this is possible? Or should I use the rpmpbone link dickohead gave (already outdated I think, correct link is =34]this one? By the way, I'm gonna use this website as repository for gnome 2.8 which should also be released today. I think it is a great combination, mdk 10.1, xorg 6.8 and gnome 2.8 :D
  11. Christian, as far as I'm aware, that driver is for the normal ati rage cards, not for the mobility car. My card is listed in linux as "ati mobility", but on a special website for my compaq armada E500 right here it is listed as a Ati Rage LT Pro.
  12. Hello Can somebody help me with bootsplash on mdk10? I've a laptop with a ati rage lt pro. Unfortunately there is no hardware acceleration support for this card . I think that b/c of this I' ve no working bootsplash. Does it have anything to do with framebuffer...? I tried suse 9.1 a few weeks ago and the bootplash worked! Thnx in advance for the help!
  13. Thnx for all the answers. Too bad the link that has a recent roadmap mentioned a 'new version freeze' on august the 5th. That means that there is no chance that the new version will appear in 10.1, pity... Also, offtopic, but IMHO it's sad that they ship gnome 2.6 while 2.8 is almost done. I guess I'm spoiled :D
  14. Thanks! Apparently my question wasn't clear, sorry. I allready knew that Mandrake coverted from xf86 to xorg (just like everybody did :D ), but I was wondering if they are going to implement the NEW version (see link in my first post), which will probably released on august 25. I hope I made myself clear this time. I really hope they'll use the new version but I will be difficult as 10.1 will be released somewhere in september...
  15. Hi there As a newbie who's using mandrake quit some time now I thought that it would be the right time to register to this forum. Mandrakeusers looks like a great community But ontopic now: the xorg release team mentioned a release date for their newest version on the mailinglist . It has some really cool improvements, and I was curious if Mandrake will include it in their upcoming distribution (10.1). Anybody got a clue???
