Kmix

I think the red lights are referring to what sound is turned off and is on. For example things such as a microphone have a red light because I'm not using it...

If turning up your volume is a problem in the game try using Acme and set up the volume to a certain key on your Keyboard, this will allow you to control volume anywhere.

No that's not normal :) What is you problem exactly Do you maybe have 2 soundcards? Check the kmix settings if it is using the right one.

......... or use aumix to set system wide volumes. Kmix is KDE specific. aumix will set & save sound volumes for the whole system. go to kicker->multimedia->sound->aumix. if it's not there, install it with either urpmi aumix (in terminal as root) or use Mandrake Control Center->software management->install software. (aumix is on the install CD's). once installed, run it, set things, save the settings.

Chris

aumix crashed first time I clicked on }Multimedia}sound}aumix (when came up that bug reporting tool but it couldn't do the backtracing or something...) and since then it doesn't start at all.

Typing in terminal aumix q will give me

aumix: error opening mixer

Correction: seems like now I don't have sound at all

(this reminds me suse)

*Audacity*

There was an error initializing the audio i/o layer.

You will not be able to play or record audio.

Error: Host error.

Ok I will try removing aumix

I will run xmms now. And what i get! Another crash!

This backtrace appears to be useless.

This is probably because your packages are built in a way which prevents creating of proper backtraces, or the stack frame was seriously corrupted in the crash.
