Guest nightshifter
I tried searching for an answer but didn't get anything related. I'm not sure exactly what the club offers for $60 year, besides that you won't get star office unless you pay more. I can understand a download section, but won't you find this elsewhere? Or will the packages be very easy to install, like those bundled on the discs? Maybe I missed a page giving more details. Being a total newb I'm sure I have missed something obvious. Any pros/cons would be appreciated.
Guest anon
For $60 a year, you don't get much at all. Really, its just a way of supporting the MDK distro BTW Im a member :)
Pzatch
What do you get? Extra support? A fancy new sticker for your car? Or just the pride you get in supporting your favorate distro?
Guest anon
No extra support, No sticker. Pride in supporting MDK ?? Maybe.....
SoulSe
I was going to start a similar thread. If you want to say thank you to the people who made the World's coolest OS then join the club. You won't get much back except special "members only" offers from time to time and, of course, Star Office - I prefer Openoffice anyway.... Ixthusdan
I think spending the money to support the distro is a good reason. Please do not think that it will get you better support. You will be disappointed. The best support is in user forums like this one. But the financial support of the "world's coolest distro" is an excellent reason to spend $60.00. (The car decal thing could work!! People would spend $60.00 for a cool car decal!! Quick, suggest it to Mandrake!!!!)
Dutch
Stickers, etc. has already been suggested! ;-) When you can get hold of cheap CD's containing a Mandrake distro (or downloading one yourself) $60 isn't a lot, is it? Particularly bearing in mind how much we used to pay for Windo$e (and every other program we had to buy to use on it). The ideal world would be to not pay anything - but that won't help Mandrake to survive in the real world..... BTW - if you can't afford $60, a smaller donation to Mandrake would do..... Guest nightshifter
I'm all for supporting. Although I am looking for a little extra incentive because $60 is a bit too much at the moment, so I need some extra reasoning power behind it when I beg for money from my s/o. lol
SoulSe
I think the very use of Mandrake should be enough of an incentive. Think of all the work, time and effort that has gone into this distro. Which we get for free? Hell, that deserves more then $60 I reckon. Although, I would love a "mandrake inside" or "windoze will crash sticker" with my subscription
Guest nightshifter
You're right, good point. A sticker would be nice though :D Thanks
Pzatch
I think i'll join anyway. Supporting the cause is in itself enough incentive. The last time I paid M$ I paid 150$ each for two win 95's. Thats the last time they got my cash. I did buy mandrake 8.2 at Wall-Mart though. Maybe if I can get the stickers made up cheap I'll find a way to get them out.
DragonMage
You know, with all these requests for stickers.. I am surprised that Mandrake doesn't think of this yet. Heck.. the stickers could be a good "incentive" to join the mandrakeclub. I mean, I think I prefer mandrake stickers to cdholders anyway. pmpatrick
You do get a little more than a warm feeling in your heart knowing your supporting Mandrake. They also have a large download section of rpms specifically packaged for Mandrake. Sure you can get most of the stuff somewhere else but it is convenient. You can also vote on what future packages you would like to have them put together for inclusion in the download section.
SteamCat
hmmmm... there's an idea. $60 Fan Club status: - Bumper Sticker - Key Ring - Pen - Certificate officially stating your evolution to a higher plane of computing. ;) - Membership card for your wallet/purse. - Pocket size spray can of Windows repellant
