  1. Many thanks. I'll try jpilot and see how things go. D
  2. Can anyone suggest the best route and program to sync a Palm T|X handheld with Linux? I've read many threads at different sites and I just want a reasonably reliable method that doesn't involve Windows! Any thoughts would be appreciated. D
  3. Thanks for the advice - much appreciated. :) One thing though - I had to enable the port in Guarddog in the Internet zone (as well as Local zone), to get the server to print?! I hope I'm not opening to the world.... WDYT? Dutch
  4. Turns out it was my firewall! Tweaked the firewall, enabled the correct port (as per XP) and I've now got the print server online. D
  5. I tried this but no test page. I selected Add New Printer via Hardware in MCC, printer setup wizard, selected remote lpd server, put in the printer LAN IP address, printer drivers installed but nothing is coming out. The print server is accessible via a browser and works with this printer in XP, so there isn't any issues with the hardware........... Could this have anything to do with Guarddog firewall? Any help appreciated. Dutch
  6. Hi Has anyone got a Netgear PS101 print server to work under Linux? I've tried as many combinations as I can and am getting nowhere. I'm running Mandriva 2006 PowerPack and have all updates. Many thanks D
  7. Thanks for the response. I'll be checking out handhelds.org............ Regards Dutch
  8. Can anyone recommend a good PDA which won't be too problematic with Linux? I don't want to pay the earth but any recommendations would be appreciated...... Preferably not with M$ software! ;) Thanks Dutch
  9. Come to think of it, I have done some --auto select updates in the past.... Thanks for the clarification
  10. Thanks, I'll give it a try. I just thought it was a bit wierd that the .14 source was installed and no sign of a .12 source anywhere........?
  11. Hi I'm running a 2006 Powerpack system on the 2.6.12-12mdksmp kernel. I would like to get rid of the basic nvidia drivers and install the latest from nvidia, but the installed kernel source is kernel-source-2.6-2.6.12-14mdk, with no rpm available showing the correct 2.6.12-12. What I cant understand is that my system doesn't appear to have any problems. Would I cause myself grief if I uninstalled the 2.6.12-14 kernel source and install a downloaded 2.6.12-12 kernel source?
  12. Thanks. My /boot/config shows: - # CONFIG_NOHIGHMEM is not set # CONFIG_HIGHMEM4G is not set CONFIG_HIGHMEM64G=y CONFIG_HIGHMEM=y ......so I guess I've got plenty of leeway! :) Once again, thanks for your help.
  13. Thanks for the info. I didn't want to splash out £60+ and find out I had to change kernel!
  14. I'm running a 2006 Powerpack on a P4 3.2 machine, which has Hyperthreading - using kernel 2.6.12-12mdksmp. Would there be any issues at all installing 1GB of RAM on an smp kernel ? Thanks for any pointers!
  15. Hope you can help. I've got an NVidia Geforce 5200 graphics card with D-sub and DVI outputs on Mandriva 2006 and prior to getting my second screen I used the D-sub connector to the first (both screens are LCD). On reading through various posts and HOWTO's I changed my xorg.conf to get dual monitor display, as follows: - # File generated by XFdrake. # ********************************************************************** # Refer to the XF86Config man page for details about the format of # this file. # ********************************************************************** Section "Files" # Multiple FontPath entries are allowed (they are concatenated together) # By default, Mandrake 6.0 and later now use a font server independent of # the X server to render fonts. FontPath "unix/:-1" EndSection Section "ServerFlags" #DontZap # disable <Crtl><Alt><BS> (server abort) AllowMouseOpenFail # allows the server to start up even if the mouse does not work #DontZoom # disable <Crtl><Alt><KP_+>/<KP_-> (resolution switching) EndSection Section "Module" Load "dbe" # Double-Buffering Extension Load "v4l" # Video for Linux Load "extmod" Load "type1" Load "freetype" Load "/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/nvidia/libglx.so" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Keyboard1" Driver "keyboard" Option "XkbModel" "pc105" Option "XkbLayout" "gb" Option "XkbOptions" "compose:rwin" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Mouse1" Driver "mouse" Option "Protocol" "ExplorerPS/2" Option "Device" "/dev/mouse" Option "ZAxisMapping" "6 7" EndSection Section "Monitor" Identifier "monitor0" HorizSync 24-83 VertRefresh 55-75 # Monitor preferred modeline (75.0 Hz vsync, 80.0 kHz hsync, ratio 5/4) ModeLine "1280x1024" 135 1280 1296 1440 1688 1024 1025 1028 1066 +hsync +vsync # TV fullscreen mode or DVD fullscreen output. # 768x576 @ 79 Hz, 50 kHz hsync ModeLine "768x576" 50.00 768 832 846 1000 576 590 595 630 # 768x576 @ 100 Hz, 61.6 kHz hsync ModeLine "768x576" 63.07 768 800 960 1024 576 578 590 616 EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "device1" VendorName "nVidia" BoardName "NVIDIA GeForce FX (generic)" Driver "nvidia" Option "NoLogo""True" Option "DPMS" Option "IgnoreEDID" "1" Option "TwinView" Option "NoTwinViewXineramaInfo""True" Option "ConnectedMonitor" "DFP-0, DFP-1" Option "SecondMonitorHorizSync""24-83" Option "SecondMonitorVertRefresh""55-75" Option "MetaModes""DFP-0:1280x1024,DFP-1:1280x1024;DFP-0:768x576,DFP-1:768x576" Option "TwinViewOrientation" "RightOf" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "screen0" Device "device1" Monitor "monitor0" DefaultColorDepth 24 Subsection "Display" Depth 8 Virtual 1280 1024 EndSubsection Subsection "Display" Depth 15 Virtual 1280 1024 EndSubsection Subsection "Display" Depth 16 Virtual 1280 1024 EndSubsection Subsection "Display" Depth 24 Virtual 1280 1024 EndSubsection EndSection Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "layout1" InputDevice "Keyboard1" "CoreKeyboard" InputDevice "Mouse1" "CorePointer" Screen "screen0" EndSection The second screen now works, but the original screen is blank! The picture has effectively moved left to the second (DVI connected) screen. There's probably something simple that I'm doing wrong, but any thoughts would be appreciated............ D
