bvc
at the blue screen do Ctrl+Alt+F2 then login as root with su <press Enter> enter_root_password <press Enter> then do; service dm stop then login as your user and do; startx did it work? If not, what are the errors? You might want to disable the dm service til the prob is fixed. You can do thay by going back to virtual console 2 (Ctrl+Alt+F2) where you are logging in as root and doing chkconfig dm off What video card? is this 10-CE, or 10.OE? Welcome to the board! Ixthusdan
A blue screen with nothing inside is not a successful test. Please tell us what video card you have. Did you startx from a console, as bvc said? What were the errors?
Guest EricZhao
I guess it's caused by video card, I have Dell 18' FP digital monitor and NVIDIA GeForce FX5200 128Mb graphic card. Thanks!
scoopy
Have you installed the nvidia driver ? http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_display...2_1.0-5336.html
illogic-al
it takes a while for x to boot on slow machines. a blue screen and wait cursor should be visible until KDE or gnome or whatever you chose starts up. How fast is your computer's processor? How long did you wait before determining that it wasn't booting?
