ral
Been gone from Linux for some time.... ever since RedHat pulled the plug on their free desktop version. Looking for a nice light and simple distro. Am using Xandros now at a Cafe and it seems pretty good. Is it any good or should I just go back to Mandrake (funny place to ask this). Darkelve
Well, you could always check out some reviews: http://www.google.com/search?q=xandros+rev...=utf-8&oe=utf-8 Both Mandrake (10) and Xandros 2 seem excellent distros to me. It all depends on what you want to use it for, I guess.
ral
Read a few reviews and they sounded promising. Decided to try one out (found a Internet Cafe that has them)... but my concern is more concerning community support, available downloads and the like. Always found Mandrake a bit too busy for me (I liked the simpler RedHat Bluecurve combo)... but on the other... other distro's may have problems in terms of community support or add-ons. The reviews had no quite covered that. Was hoping for feedback from users who may have tried it and what they liked or did not like about it. What worries me is I often see Xandro's mentioned in the same reviews as Lindows (eeekkk).
Gowator
So whats wrong with Lindows..... Its all horses for courses. My personal opinion is that distros fall somewhere between a) TECHNICAL.... deb, slack, gentoo B) INTERMEDIATE MDK et al c) NON TECHNICAL - Lindows, lycoris A is whatever you make it. C is what you buy B .... well an electric mixture of both.... I always liked Mandrake but for me its moving too far into C .... Power is being sacrificed for an easy to use desktop. I have my own reasons that Id like a single distro for the servers and desktops. However Mandrake is drifting away from WebMin, has already dumped linuxconf etc, in favour of wizards. If you like this then xandros is probably a great easily usable desktop distro.
ral
Thanks. I guess I should give the latest Mandrake a look first. 8.2 was the last one I really used.

ral
I guess I am a bit worried it might be too cuttin edge since now its a test bed... but may go with that. I still has Bluecurve =)
