Jomboni
So, after installing Mandrake 10 I went and added a contrib source & one of the plf sources to my list of software sources, and installed a few extra programs through URPMI... and now my Gnome & KDE menus are empty! Heh... and I'll nip this in the bud ahead of time... unlike in 9.2, 'update-menus', 'update-menus -v', 'update-menus -v -n -d' or any other variation that I've read about trying online doesn't seem to make it any better. Does anybody have any suggestions? Thanks!!!
chris z
try right clicking on kicker & choose menu editor. choose the "menu style" button & check if the "all applications (Mandrake Menu) option is selected. if not, select it & save. you may have to restart KDE for settings to take effect. Jomboni
Ahh, I should have mentioned that I tried that too. It's set to "all applications" and along with restarting X, after that didn't work I just rebooted the whole system, and still nothing. Thanks for the help though! :)
Steve Scrimpshire
aHA. But did you run update-menus as root or as your regular user? :P
Jomboni
Both, and still nothing :(
bvc
did ya get the drak and menu updates?
scoopy
Did ya try, removing the k menu and then adding it back in OR, try the add / remove applet or special button --- especially the k menu. I did notice the K button has been replaced by a Mandrake star. (somebody has been messing with the start menu, yes ?)
thinkliberty
Both, and still nothing :( pen the konsole or other terminal app of choice then type su (it will ask you for your root users password) update-menus -v exit update-menus -v Do you get any errors? the v will let you know if there were any problems... When I run as root, I don't get any errors, but the last line I get is this: update-menus[26356]: Running method: /etc/menu-methods/simplified/gnome And I don't get a command line... but if I start typing the command line appears. As a regular user it works fine except I get this message: cp: cannot create regular file `/home/jomboni/.gnome2/apps-mdk/.directory': No such file or directory
Steve Scrimpshire
Try this as your regular user: mkdir /home/jomboni/.gnome2/apps-mdk and then run update-menus
Jomboni
This is getting frustrating :) When I add that directory, update-menus -v erases it.
aRTee
Can you create a new user, then log in as that one...?
