Lord Kenneth
Um, all I know is that she has a cd burner, and it's not being detected by the operating system. The other CD ROM is detected fine...
spiedra
What CD Burner you got? Maybe bad cable. What happens if you changed places with the cdrom and burner or swap cables? Edited March 7, 2004 by spiedra
bvc
is it in the bootloader append?
Lord Kenneth
I don't think it's in the bootloader append... I know it's the primary IDE device, and I know it worked in windows. Mandrake just isn't showing it. Oh, and it's a Sony...
beesea
Mandrake just isn't showing it. what exactly does this mean? does it show up when you run dmesg? does it not have a node in /dev?
Lord Kenneth
It doesn't show up, period. It's not in /dev, it's not anywhere.
SoulSe
Ok, so you're using 2.6.3 - did you compile it yourself or use the mandrake rpm *shiver* to upgrade the kernel? Because SCSI emulation has to be compiled into the kernel for CD writers...
aRTee
Ehm no, you don't need scsi emulation at all, 2.6 kernels allow direct writing to ata cdr devices. Lower cpu load too. Post your lilo.conf, and give us more info on the computer. OS version, how you installed it, which extras, etc. You're asking us to help in the decoration of your living room but only let us peek through a keyhole -- that for all we know shows us part of your kitchen.
