Guest swedeman
I just installed Mandrake 9.2 (had 9.1 prior), and I'd like to put kppp on my desktop so I can activate my modem without having to go into the control center. I can't remember how I did it on Mandrake 9.1 system. The modem dialup does work great. Where does the "kppp" file reside???
kilimanjaro
I have kppp in my menu, so I just right click and scroll down, you can do that with menudrake, and the command is just kppp, that is also how you run it from a terminal. scoopy
If your running KDE, right click on desktop gives you an option to create link to application. Make one of those, and then fill in kppp for the command and then pick an icon of your liking.
ezroller
a great way to find out where a file is located is this: as root: updatedb to update the list of files' whereabouts, and then: locate "filename"
VeeDubb
For me, kppp has NEVER instaled on it's own in 9.2 You have to install it from the MCC sotware section first, then do what they are telling you. And to answer your question directly... K>network>remoteaccess>kppp
Guest swedeman
Wow, thanks for all the replies!!! I tried the link to application and it didn't work. Tried typing "kppp" in the terminal and it didn't work. Didn't find it in my menu either. Will try the load command next. What's interesting is that I loaded everything on the list during setup. Will look for it where VeeDubb mentioned. With post with results tommorrow........... Thanks again for all the info.
kilimanjaro
I guess I should have mentioned, I am still on 9.1, I don't know what the differences are, but I didn't think it would that big
bvc
wait, you did kppp in a terminal and it didn't work? What was the error? Are your sure it's installed? The name of the rpm is kdenetwork-kppp. To install do; urpmi kdenetwork-kppp I don't have it but use to b4 broadband. To find it rpm wise in a terminal; urpmf kppp which show a lot of stuff but you're looking for; kdenetwork-kppp:/etc/pam.d kdenetwork-kppp:/etc/pam.d/kppp kdenetwork-kppp:/usr/bin/kppp kdenetwork-kppp:/usr/bin/kppplogview kdenetwork-kppp:/usr/lib/menu/kdenetwork-kppp kdenetwork-kppp:/usr/lib/menu/kdenetwork-kppplogview kdenetwork-kppp:/usr/share/applications/kde/Kppp.desktop kdenetwork-kppp:/usr/share/applications/kde/kppplogview.desktop kdenetwork-kppp:/usr/share/apps/kppp So, kdenetwork-kppp:/usr/bin/kppp, tells us what the which command would in a terminal: do; which kppp so forget locate, slocate, find, and whereis. Use which. The which kppp will show you the exec /usr/bin/kppp I believe this is for the menu entry /usr/share/applications/kde/Kppp.desktop
Guest swedeman
Thanks to everyone for your help. bvc: apparently it wasn't loaded. I tried VeeDubb's suggestion and use the Control Center and loaded it off the CD. Made a link on my desktop and now it works great. Actually I tried everyone's suggestion so I do appreciate all the replies. LOVE MANDRAKE LINUX !!!!!!
