xmms locking

Hi guys!

I'm using mdk 9.2 and xmms started to locking when I click on its play button. What's going on?

I am a newbie but I use mandrake since version 7.02 and xmms always locked! always! I'm tired of xmms locks! :furious3:

Don't you guys know a better player than xmms?

I can say that the problem isn't the sound server because i run other programs which play sounds and they work with no problem. I already tried to remove my xmms personal settings folder but it still to locking! :wall:

i just want to listen my mp3s! :help:

Open a terminal and start xmms from there; see if you get error messages. There are no debugging switches,

-bash-2.05b$ xmms --help

Usage: xmms [options] [files] ...

Options:

--------

-h, --help Display this text and exit.

-n, --session Select XMMS session (Default: 0)

-r, --rew Skip backwards in playlist

-p, --play Start playing current playlist

-u, --pause Pause current song

-s, --stop Stop current song

-t, --play-pause Pause if playing, play otherwise

-f, --fwd Skip forward in playlist

-e, --enqueue Don't clear the playlist

-m, --show-main-window Show the main window.

-i, --sm-client-id Previous session ID

-v, --version Print version number and exit.

What Mandrake verson?, [edit] whoops 9.2

what XMMS version?

what desktop?

what sound server?

xmms is about as good as it gets depending on your needs I guess. I use Rhythmbox the most though.

the question is what plugin do you have xmms using? Open options>preferences....what Output Plugin are you using?

If you use kde/alsa you can disable the arts sound server at startup and still have sound. There are xmms plugins for alsa, arts, esd....is oss built in? I think so?

?alsa/oss

?sound server

as kuchwas said.
