chin808
I have mandy 9.2 discovery and was told that Gnome wasnt included with my mandy because of some "policy" according to mandrake experts Well I have Kde and I like it, but I want to try Gnome now- Just wondering what the best way to go about dowloading and installing it would be. Thanx helpers -C

Darkelve
??? Who would do a thing like that ??? Perhaps you picked the community support forum and got unlucky (anybody can post a reply here). Note that there are 2 different kinds of support. If it was the official support (you got 1 month with your discovery box), this would be unacceptable (telling you it's not there while it should be)! You sure you got no Gnome? You can download it from the web for free as suggested, but when bought, it should've been included. Maybe it did not get installed for some reason? If it really isn't there, where did you buy your box? Very strange... by the way, LILO only shows your operating systems (Linux, Windows and others if you have any). Do not mistake it for the login screen. Oh yeah... 1 other thing: we're here to try and help as much as we can, but we are not affiliated with the official Mandrakesoft company. Thought I'd mention it and spare the admins the trouble. Edited December 4, 2003 by Darkelve
bvc
You have gnome available. Login to kde and use the Software Management>rpmdrake + in the Mandrake Control Center (mcc) to install it.
chin808
Actually it was the official support, and no I didnt realize that about lilo ( using linux about 3 weeks) - thanx I realize as well that this is a message board and just for general questions and all that... I bought the box from mandrake so... yeh Do you think it is on one of my cd's? When I urpmi gnome I get the list of packages I pasted earlier. Is it possible that I have gnome but its just not showing on my login screen? Thanx for the help YALL ( cant shake that nashville talk) -C

Darkelve
It was probably just not installed when you ran the installer (for some reason). "gnome2" is probably the package you are looking for, I think. Most of the other packages are either packages Gnome depends on (librarier, scripts etc.) or programs for Gnome. Rpmdrake will automatically find out which 'dependent' packages should be installed and in what order (these 'dependent' packages are called 'dependencies').
