  1. Please supply more information. When did this problem start? Can you remember what you were doing before this problem started. Are you running Compiz-Fusion? What Mandriva version are you using? Please give as much info as possible.
  2. Run XFdrake as root and reselect your graphics card etc. Then do a test to make sure it all works before quitting.
  3. Have you tried dropping the folder onto the player? This method works with Xine.
  4. Check if your webcam (or chipset) is in this list: http://mxhaard.free.fr/spca5xx.html
  5. I've had a quick scan through (I'll have a more thorough read later), so far the only error I see is this typo:
  6. You cannot judge it with the cooker version. 4.1 is the latest stable release. There's a lot of other previous functions that didn't work in the cooker version but do in 4.1. The cooker experience didn't warm me to KDE4 however the stable releases are a much better experience and I am now gradually liking the new look/functions.
  7. For those interested in how KDE4 is progressing, there's a review here: http://polishlinux.org/kde/kde-41-visual-c...log-rev-783000/
  8. Hang in there, things are improving and functionality is slowly being added. See here for a review on the current state of KDE4: http://polishlinux.org/kde/kde-41-visual-c...log-rev-783000/
  9. I'm going to stick my oar in here and say PClinuxOS (a fork of Mandriva) is also a very good distro.
  10. kcontrol (KDE Control Centre)--> Security & Privacy--> Privacy.
  11. Do you have confirm logout checked in your session manager?
  12. You should be able to disable it in kcontrol (KDE Control Centre)--> Regional & Accessibility--> Keyboard Shortcuts--> Global Shortcuts--> Desktop.
  13. Wow, are those icons on your desktop, or are you just happy to see me!! :)
  14. By all means you can still do it the manual way. Ntfs-config is just a popup app that offers make the fstab entries for you.
  15. It gives you the option to Enable write support for external devices & Enable write support for internal devices, as well as showing you the mount point of the device.
  16. Simply changing the wording from ntfs to ntfs-3g is not correct. You need to install the ntfs-3g and ntfs-config packages. If you have your sources setup you can type from commandline as root: urpmi ntfs-3g ntfs-config. If you don't have your sources setup then use the Easy-Urpmi link to the top right of this board to get started.
  17. In answer to your question you need to startup Mandriva Control Centre (Do Alt & F2 and type mcc then click run). Click on Configure media sources for install and update, this is where you can change the drive settings. A couple of links about compiling: http://club.mandriva.com/xwiki/bin/view/KB/BasicsBsource http://club.mandriva.com/xwiki/bin/view/KB/BasicsBsource2
  18. That surprises me, normally an external modem is preferable when using Linux. What make is it?
  19. I have a setup similar to yours and I don't experience any problems streaming via nfs using xine. There is the option in xine to 'Choose speed over specification compliance' or perhaps try a different video driver (again in xine) rather than leaving the choice on auto.
  20. No lol, sorry, I was posting it in relation to your modem problem. The answer may be there.
  21. Eh? What does 'eye-candy' have to do with hardware detection? Are you saying that the very same people who provide eye-candy i.e. compiz-fusion are the same people who deal with hardware detection? Although the ability to 'screen-rotate' might seem like a novelty, for some people it has 'real world' use. It's not only unfair, but wrong to mix the two different camps together. It seems to me that, if these problems affect many then they get serious attention. This site might be of use to you: http://thinkwiki.org/wiki/ThinkWiki
