  1. That did the trick. Thanks bud. I also gave Peazip a whirl and it is a decent little app. Thanks for the advice on that mindwave. I also appreciate the others who chimmed in with help = ]
  2. Been haapily running 2007.1 and just did a fresh install of 2008.1 yesterday. So far all is well except I can't seem to find an unrar utility anywhere. I updated my sources using the new Easy-Urmpi but when I type in "unrar" nothing comes up in the search. Although I have been using Mandriva for about 8 months now I really don't know much about Linux, I have never compiled anything from source. I went to rarlabs.com but they only offer the tarball. Is that what I have to do or is there something else? If I do have to use the tarball would someone give me a step by step on what to do? Thanks guys.
  3. I was browsing the How-To section and ran across this post https://mandrivausers.org/index.php?showtopic=19212 on writting to NTFS partitions. It has not been updated since 2004 and thought a mod might want to include the ntfs-3g/ntfs-config info.
  4. Thanks for the help guys. I installed ntfs-3g used the ntfs-config gui - couldn't be easier. Thanks again.
  5. I have Win2k setup as my second OS on another hard drive. I can read it under my file manager but I cannot write to it. How do I change that? I tried looking under the MCC in Mount Points and set the options for it so that ordinary users can write to it but it did not work. I also right clicked on the drive in my file manager and in the properties I set it so that everyone has write access to it but that did not work either. It is HDB and the mount point is /mnt/win_c2 The other partition that is doing the same thing is on hda and the mount point is /mnt/windows Any ideas?
  6. Awesome guys thanks for the info. I used a friends pc and setup her Ipod then brought it to my pc and tried Banshee and Gtkpod but neither worked. So I need to flash it? Can someone point me in the right direction for that? It is a 4GB Silver Nano the newer widescreen ones w/video support if that is relevent. And Willie, thanks for the link to the libgpod app but I am running 2007.1 and those links are for 2008.1 :)
  7. I see, that makes sense now. So I do need to use Itunes to initially setup the Ipod then once that is done I can use Banshee to add content to it. It is the new generation Nano with video support. Nice little unit. I was completely satisfied with my little Creative MP3 player till I started mucking around with this Ipod, mine seems like an old 8 track in comparision now = ]
  8. Hey guys, my daughter just got a 4Gb Ipod Nano. Unbeknownst to me you can't just plug it in and drop some tunes onto it like with my Creative MP3 player. It wants to use Itunes. I checked Apple's site but they only have Windows versions. I do have a Win2k partition but her Ipod is new and it requires Itunes 7.4 to run and Apple discontinued Win2k support with version 7.3x ... this means I need to get her Ipod up and running from scratch on Linux. I searched around and found an app that replace Itunes, called Banshee http://www.banshee-project.org/Main_Page Anyone use this and if so can I setup my girls Ipod out of the box with it? If not does anyone have any advice for me?
  9. I like to keep things clean and simple = ]
  10. Thanks jkerr82508 that works just as well for me.
  11. Is there a way to add a shortcut for a new tab in the area shown in the pic below? Although it is easy enough to click file/new tab, it would be even better if I could make a little shortcut to it = ] [moved from Software by spinynorman]
  12. Thanks guys, appreciate the help. Is there an app that does a secure deletion of the free space on your drive?
  13. Howdy guys, when I used Windows there was a nifty little free app called Crap Cleaner that I used. It cleaned out all your temp files, browser tracks, recycle bin, etc. Is there something like I can toss on Mandriva? I know how to clean out the places manually one by one but ... = ]
  14. Don't worry about this issue. I am finding 2008.0 to be somewhat buggy and unstable. I am going to format my system and toss on my trusty 2007 Spring again. Thanks guys = ]
  15. No go! I tried out the alt+ctrl+backspace and I am still getting no love. Any other ideas? If I was the only one using the computer it would be no biggie but there are a few of us so it is necessary to log off and on while switching users.
