  1. If the options are greyed out, it probably means your hardware doesn't support rotation or reflection. They are greyed out for me, too and here is the output of xrandr -q:
  2. With your static ip, try setting up /etc/sysconfig/network NETWORKING=yes GATEWAYDEV=eth0 GATEWAY=192.168.0.1 I'm sure you've already thought of making sure which network card is considered eth0 by Linux.
  3. Have you read this? http://mandrakeusers.org/index.php?showtopic=23154 If you need specific info related to your specific problem, we will need to know the info adamw suggested.
  4. Hey, you could just remove the ; ....oh, heh. I see you already noticed that :D

  6. ooo...better contact Apple and tell them itune's m4p's are illegal oh yeah, -bvc <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Do you have any basis for the belief that DRM is legal? If yer gonna hang around and cause trouble, please post under the right username. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> most certainly and you might wanna do the same...you sure have spent many, many hours with profiles....looking for someone? Need help? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What are you talking about? Does that have anything to do with the topic?

  8. DRM restricts the "fair use" of copyrighted material, thus making DRM, in America anyway, illegal, so the DRM argument has little bearing on this issue.
  9. Not necessarily a routine question. Since firefox is a gtk app, it follows the rules set in gnome-control-center. In there is a preferred applications section. To have it open in a new window, I have mozilla-firefox -remote 'openUrl(%s,new-window)'
  10. I thought you were gone. Just as antagonistic as ever.
  11. These are the same symptoms that my users reported and there was this and another workaround. It has to do with the headers that apache sends and what IE exepcts in its stupidity. The first time the file is sent, Apache tells it that it is a PDF, so IE reads it that way, but since it doesn't know on its own that it was supposed to be a PDF, it doesn't cache the %PDF stuff along with it and corrupts the cached version. Now, if IE sees the *.pdf extension, it stores the cached version properly. If this particular workaround does not work, you can tell your PDFlib or whatever PHP script/library you are using to save the file to disk first and then redirect IE to the PDF itself. I think the second workaround was the one I actually wound up having to use now that I think about it. Once again, this is not a problem with Apache or PHP, but an IE bug. I promise. I have experience with this. I wrote a PHP script using phplib to create a pdf and many of my users experienced this problem. After the workaround, the problem was solved.
  12. Is the URL in their browser whatever.pdf or does it end with *.php? I encountered this IE evillness on my website. One of the workarounds I found was to create a fictitious variable, if that's the case. http://THIS-IS-JUST-AN-EXAMPLE.com/mypdf.php?extension=.pdf and that tricks IE and its helpers.
  13. From my perspective, I want to say that I don't believe any of this is the fault of thac, just the newness of KDE 3.4 and its depencies. I don't want the problems I/we're having to lessen the great work that Thac has done and minimize the gratefulness I/we have for his work.

  15. DSL Lite is the cheapo 256k (or something like that) connection.
  16. Like this one? http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=7209 Opened: 2004.01.30 12:49 This one still gives me fits. They know the culprit. They know the workaround. Why can't they fix it?
  17. Hmmmm. I've always been able to urpmi my way to a new release. 9.2, I think, was the most difficult because of major changes in naming conventions, but other than that...no problems.
  18. I play NWN and UT with my 64MB DDR card with only slight problems, so in my humble opinion, 128 MB should be good.
  19. I like this myself and I like the fact that it is clarified. I'm a little miffed about the official NVidia driver, too, but I guess that's more NVidia's fault than Mandrake. I would like to state my approval of this slowed release cycle loudly and strongly. I used Cooker for quite some time till about 10.0-ish when Cooker become horribly horribly unstable and I won't go back for a while. Now, it seems (maybe due to MDK's recent financial problems and downsizing) that when the 6-month new release point draws near, MDK becomes nearly as unstable as Cooker used to be (before it became unusably unstable, IMHO). This needed to end and the slower release cycle is the answer, I think. Now, as I've said before very, very vocally, what MDK needs to concentrate on is customer service. The slowed release cycle should not only help them stabilize the main distro, but free them up to actually provide some sort of customer service. I'm not talking about tech support...I'm talking genuine, down-to-earth customer service. I paid for my MDK Club Membership (silver) and I logged in to the store...did my Club Discount show up? Nope. I emailed customer service about it and was given some vague 'you must be a newbie' instructions, which of course didn't work because I had already tried that. 75% of the club mirrors either were horribly out of sync, were broken or were just downright too slow...MDK can say that's not their fault, but it is ultimately their responsibility. I paid for Club membership twice. Did I ever get my MDK store Club discount? Nope. Will I ever become a Club member again? Nope. If I'm a Club member, I should get a response to my email within 24 hrs....hopefully much sooner...with an actual solution to my problem. Anyway, enough of my offtopic rant. I am very pleased with the slowed release cycle and don't let the 'I want bleeding edge and I want it now' people get you down. Now, hopefully this is a good sign of more improvements to come...especially in customer service.
  20. I cannot stress enough how 'experimental' KDE 3.4 and its dependencies are. After installing KDE 3.4 and its dependencies, several other people I know and I are having serious problems booting, shutting down and logging in to X through the DM. Firefox won't be as bad, but always be careful about adding repositories that hold experimental pkgs.
  21. That's Jane Seymour. (I wish she were my Jane.) Don't they have like TV in Cowtown? :P
  22. Nominated Screenshot haven't posted one in a long while and thought I would. as you can see, I'm on a Jane kick:
  23. Do you su oinstall or su - oinstall It just might make a difference.
  24. I agree completely with adamw, except for the 'all vendors are the same' part. I had a BFG GeForce4 MX440-SE 64 MB DDR 4x agp card that i loved loved looooooved. It was pretty cheap compared to most cards of the same type from different vendors and I had friends that had the same type card from different manufacturers that didn't perform as well. Maybe I got lucky, who knows, but if I have a choice, I go with BFG.
