That's probably correct. But I know that with a card that has dual heads, you can have 3D going, as I played Quake 3 and UT2K3 on a monitor and TV at the same time once. I think it's a driver limitation, and it may even state that in the readme file, not too sure.

Super NooB here: how do I allow each user to have there own

There is a tutorial about that here: http://tuxbox.by-a.com/proftpd-howto/ -
This new RPM of Quake should put an icon in the menu too... But I'm not sure about it... It seems to have kinda disappeared on me now... The file just isn't there. But either way, the game works just fine, and there is a cool Quake icon in the directory /usr/local/games/twilight/ Try it out and let me know.

There is a partial listing here: http://mdkxp.by-a.com/htm/articles/gamelist.php That list currently only holds the games that you can download binaries or source code for. I'm gonna work on a list, maybe, of games that you can get natively that don't use the Windows CD. Anyhow, if you wanna see my desktop, here it is: http://aslan.no-ip.com/~dana/img/desktop20021124.png Notice my icons. :)

Don't forget the last / on the URL either. I don't know how to change it, but you can. I'm just lazy to look it up. :P -
3ddesk --gnome2 works for KDE3... It's in the docs.
-
I tried that with SoF before, but it didn't like it when I went to higher resolutions... Not sure why. BTW, you should really buy the games, as they aren't expensive most places, and it's going to count as a Linux sale.
-
ftp.lokigames.com Just because they are out of business doesn't mean that you can't still get the updates. :)
-
Just add more resolutions to your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file. For example: Section "Screen" Identifier "screen-normal" Device "device-normal" Monitor "monitor1" DefaultColorDepth 24 Subsection "Display" Depth 24 Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480" EndSubsection EndSection

A few of us in #mub have been doing this thing from this site: http://folding.stanford.edu/ It'll put your CPU to good use when you're not using it, instead of looking for aliens (that are really just demons anyhow) or other crap. Anyhow, if you wanna join, out team number is 12675, and the team name is MUB. There's a linux binary for download, just chmod +x filename, then run it. Here's our team page: http://folding.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/teampa...etailed?q=12675

NEdit does let you add menu options and you can set hotkeys to those, but I'm not sure about the project stuff.. http://aslan.no-ip.com/~dana/img/steve1.png ^^ I used NEdit a while ago... I grew out of it REAL quick. KATE rocks so far.

What version of Mandrake are you using? And did you install it using the latest Loki installer? There is a more recent one than what comes on the CD. And did you change the default options when you were installing? And what user are you trying to run it as? Please don't say root...
-
Funny, my Mandrake came with Evolution... At least it was on the CDs when I installed it onto my wife's PC... I don't use it. Too much extras for me. My mail client starts in under 2 minutes. ;) Er, seconds. Anyhow, here's what I mostly use: GaimGaleon webmin urpmi rpm XChat XMMS Checkinstall Sylpheed Konsole Quanta Gimp Kate gFTP wget POSE GVIM/vim Grip Grep Gawk Pan kcalc Grub Firestarter OpenOffice.org aumix GCC Gedit Gkrellm (I don't really use it, but it's always running.) There's other stuff, just isn't coming to mind at the moment. I have links to some of this on my links page on my site.

I don't know if ALL of their games are ported, as they maybe had some old crap that sucked, but anything since Doom and some before that has been ported, to my knowledge. Yes, Dan Olson did the Hexen port too, so it's out there. :)
-
You might want to look at my tutorial too, since it will help you to understand what happens when you install a real kernel, not via RPM. ;) So if something screws up, you'll know what went wrong. At least I found my tutorial helpful for myself. No more needing to remember commands. :)

You install the card into your computer then turn it on and boot into Mandrake 9.0. If you're lucky, a Xawtv icon will appear on your desktop and you're pretty much done... As I said, I don't have this card, so I can't write a tutorial. It's not hard to figure out what to do, just know that the Mandrake Control Center has an option specifically for TV tuners, and Xawtv is the app you want to use for using the card.

Okay... Timegate licensed Transgaming to "port" their games via WineX... Ability "ported" (read: packaged a Windows app in an RPM and provided instructions for installing and configuring Wine) their office suite too... If those developers are using Wine now, what would make them not use it in the future? The way things are going, Wine(X) will be too deeply entrenched into the way things are done, and we will be running on top of a Windows framework for a long time to come. Don't believe me? Look at the Linux distros that now integrate Wine right in... You can deny what's becoming of Linux all you want, but closing your eyes doesn't make the monsters go away.

Currently I'm using Kate, as you can have multiple panes opened with different files (or the same files) opened at once. To compile, I use a pane that has a terminal session opened, and to open all my files at once, I use the project plugin. It works good enough for me.
-
I won't run a Wined game. My money will go to the guys who think that my OS is worth it to port the games natively. :)
-
TuxGames isn't guessing the dates... They're going by what they're told by BioWare... BioWare said mid-Q4, and it's past that now... Anyhow, Doom 3, as every id Software game, will be ported. Carmack takes way too much pride in his games to allow them to be "ported" via Wine... At least that's what I think. And RTCW wasn't an id Software game.

Some news on United Linux - How about common RPM's
DOlson replied to ral's topic in Everything Linux
A marketer? For Linux? Is there such a thing? -
1) Please post how to do this. 2) Build a new RPM yourself then. I assure it's not as easy as you would think...

1) You mean like using CVS so that you don't send Transgaming your money? Good idea! 2) Argh. My site has a WineX CVS tutorial on it too... If you're gonna tell people to use WineX, tell them to use CVS so Transgaming doesn't get their money. :P 3) See numbers 1 and 2.
