  1. Aye, I'm quick and swiftly when it applies to games B)
  2. Going to try it out It have been awhile since I tried Mandriva (or an .rpm based distro for that matter). By the way is the latest Mandriva one based on spring? I don't have any blank DVDs atm. so..
  3. You have to install the -devel package of libgtk2 Usually when you want to compile something you need its header or -devel/-dev
  4. Found this you might check: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=362231
  5. If you install kubuntu-desktop metapackage you'll get the exactly as it is in kubuntu. You can do they same with Xubuntu it's just xubuntu-desktop. BUT if you install kde-core and the decided kde packages you want to have on your system you have ubuntu with KDE. Some don't like they way the Kubuntu team have setup KDE so they usually grab ubuntu server edition, pick expert installation and then install kde-core and the desired choosen packages. Some say (I havn't tried), that kde-core installation makes KDE more responsive and faster than kubuntu. There can be some truth in this as kubuntu have everything set up by default (which stuff to run in the background etc.), with kde-core it's a completly clean without anything set up for you.
  6. Here it is: http://news.zdnet.co.uk/software/0,1000000...39286923,00.htm Regarding if it should be Kubuntu; Kubuntu is not nearly as polished as Ubuntu and it wouldn't be a wise move. But people who want Kubuntu can easely install kubuntu-desktop meta package or put together kde-core, kdm, xorg etc. from the repo.
  7. http://wildfiregames.com/0ad/ ops, wrong forum, any mods want to move it to games forum?
  8. I can't see any reason why running Vista instead of XP other than it takes some heavy tolls on the game performances. The only reason to use Vista for gaming will be if all the game companies switch to DX10, but that would not happening the next 5 years.
  9. You might also check out Pixel Image Editor; http://www.kanzelsberger.com/pixel/?page_id=12
  10. You might also check out some of the games that run natively on Linux. Which game types do you prefer?
  11. Please leave the gnome-bashing away from this thread, thank you.

  13. Oh well, stuff like that happens. But I stand with my words, we have overwhelming positive response on Feisty. I'll also send a congrats to mandriva for their release
  14. Aye, that's my experience as well. What I'm happy with is it's much more stable than edgy and you can enable beryl with two commands. Compiz users can just enable compiz with a click. My USB mobilephone transmitter is working, havn't done that in previous releases of Ubuntu or any other distro I've tested/tried on my spare place.
  15. Well, my news got approved (news have to get approved) and the news section covers everything what's moving in the Linux world. Over at Ubuntuforums.org we also have forum sections for other distros so I don't think noones gets "cheated" (lack of better word). So if you have a mandriva release/news you can go there and post if you like :) (and I'm still silver member of mandriva, even though I have been on ubuntu since warty beta)
  16. Ubuntu Feisty Fawn (7.04) is released! Very fresh news! http://www.ubuntu.com/ Release Notes Feisty Tour Page
  17. You could build your own from scratch or rebuild another distro with your own touch and tweaks. ....and call it Vampyrix ...or if it's an Ubuntu rebuild call it... Vampuntu Slogan; Linux for Vampires Tested an approve by Dracula. Okay...I'll just leave this thread alone :D
  18. This X Plane? http://www.x-plane.com/ It have a linux client so far I can see.
  19. Last time I played it there were some graphics features that weren't enabled under Cedega (shaders and such), so that might account for the perfomance increase. Could be that, but graphically I didn't see a diffrence (or I wasn't aware off).
  20. Just hope Intel starts to make some decent cards then...
  21. Actually back in the time when I played alot of WoW I ran it through Cedega and it ran it faster with Cedega than Windows. But I don't play Wow anymore. But I still have Cedega (and now cedega 6.0) as Cedega runs my games almost perfectly well. So no complaint from here. I think most complains come from ATI users, but even native games sucks with ATI. But I really like to know how well Oblivion runs under Cedega before investing money in Oblivion. I'm a huge Elder Scroll fans and have played all of them except Oblivion.
  22. Ubuntu Gamers Arena - News Section TransGaming’s Cedega brings the thrill of blockbuster video gaming to the Linux operating system. Cedega enables Linux gamers to play Windows titles on their Linux OS of choice. Triple-A video games such as Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Battlefield 2142, World of WarCraft, Madden 2007, Civilization IV and many more, can be played on Linux using Cedega. An easy, out-of-the-box gaming experience is at your fingertips.
